Biography

"Dreamy, optimistic, passionate, hard-working, but also shy and impatient” : those are the words used by Sarah to define herself. Born in Brussels from a Belgo-congolese father and a Chadian mother, Sarah Carlier comes close to music at an early age, since her father is a professional guitar player, and her mother writes poems and lyrics. The influence of the artists she’s loved for ever can still be heard in her compositions, from Nina Simone to Tracy Chapman, Jimi Hendrix or Gnarls Barckley. Young Sarah receives her first acoustic guitar on her 16th birthday. She learns fast and starts composing quite quickly : music gives her a way to express her feelings. Though it is not her mother tongue, she writes in English, as a natural echo of the Music which has built her musical culture.
When she asks her family to listen to her first song, they encourage her to go on. She posts some videos on Youtube, records two songs and creates her own account on AKAMUSIC. Within a few months, round 600 surfers-producers invest in her future album. She thus decides to interrupt her studies in anthropology to give herself the chance to rise up to the expectations of those who had believed in her.
Sarah Carlier offers us an impressive and surprising first album, “For those who believe”. Heady tunes, full of optimistic dreams, reach us through her beautiful, moving voice. Franck Baya (Francoiz Breut, Saule) co-signed some compositions, realised the album and plays the drums. Laurent Stelleman (Moonsoon) plays the guitar, adding a luminous touch of folk. The first single, “Backstage”, was warmly welcomed by many radios. Next step for Sarah is now the live performances, for which she’s waiting impatiently since her first concerts gave her an incredible impression to share unique feelings with her audience.
A ray of sunshine that would leave no one cold… All you need is prick up your ears and appreciate!
