Bio

The Music of Sarah Cheevers:

Sarah has spent her entire life on Canada’s west coast, and it is this experience that has most influenced her songs. Evoking images of life on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, Sarah’s lyrics are often a painstakingly honest perspective on nature itself, or on personal relationships that strive to succeed in a time when our very environment is stressed. Most songs emanate from her own experiences, of course, whether they be from the ecstasy and pain of love, or from her work as a school teacher with under-privileged youth. It is clear that the passion in Sarah’s songs come from a profound love for people and the natural world in which we must forge our relationships.

Over the years, people who have encountered Sarah’s music, whether it be from listening to her two independent CDs to those who have seen her at various venues, from Vancouver’s Railway Club to Canadian Music Week in Toronto, have had a very intimate and authentic experience. Sarah's lyrics have caught the attention of CBC's Paul Grant, as well as west coast acoustic blues legend Kelly Joe Phelps, whom Sarah has also recorded with. For the past five years, Sarah has played regularly at the Cottage Bistro in Vancouver.

Most of her songs oscillate between a rhythmic strumming to finger-picking lines based on her own very unique and beautiful melodies. Sarah’s guitar-playing style provides a perfect backdrop for her lyrics, the emotion inherent in both making for perfect and harmonious musical moments. Listening to the music of Sarah Cheevers is like immersing oneself in all that is worth contemplating about west coast life. Come and try it out.
