Pop with jazz influences. "Feel-good-music" with songs that tells stories from day to day life

Biography

“Sarah’s music speaks to all of us. With a unique voice that will reach into your heart and warm your soul.”

While growing up in Sweden, Sarah Chesler was surrounded by music. Her mother taught her to play piano almost as soon as she could reach the keys, and by age twelve she was writing and performing her own songs. Her influences were many: the hymns sung in her father’s church on Sundays, the American jazz she heard at night on the radio, and the Scandinavian pop bands which were a constant backdrop to her schooldays.

When Sarah left Sweden for America, she became a well-established presence on the local music scene in Connecticut. She soon added guitar to her repertoire, continuing to write in her own inimitable style, while reflecting the music that had meant so much to her as she was growing up.

In recent years, she has further honed her skills working with numerous bands and as a solo artist. Sarah has maintained a busy performance schedule in Connecticut and New York City, playing venues such as Caffe Vivaldi and Googie’s Lounge, as well as the legendary Bitter End in Greenwich Village.

In this last year, Sarah has been recording with a full band for the first time. And now with the release of her latest album “Monday Night Smoker”, we can fully appreciate her dexterity and growth as an artist to be reckoned with. Sarah has perfected the balance between her three instruments: piano, guitar and her mesmerizing, almost haunting, voice. It is a voice that captivates and grabs by the heartstrings. And never more so than when she’s singing any one of the upbeat, pop-inspired songs that have become her trademark. All the tracks but one on this new album are her own compositions: each a snapshot from her life. Themes include the trepidation and joy of returning home after years away, the delight and laughter in a strong and enduring relationship, and the memory of a summer love captured with lilting bossa nova overtones. But perhaps most personal of all, she channels her emotions into a moving tribute to her father, held together by the thread of a rhythmic heartbeat. “House of the Rising Sun” is the one cover song, but to listen to Sarah’s jazz inspired arrangement is like hearing this classic for the first time. Her voice has a deep, mellifluous tone that takes you straight to Bourbon Street.

Sarah describes her music as “alternative pop with jazz influences” and adds, “I don’t know where this musical path is taking me next, but I am definitely enjoying the journey. Whatever happens along the way is a bonus!”

Secrets That I Hold

Written By: Sarah Chesler

By Sarah Chesler

People might say don’t go out there it’s cold
But I don’t like to do as I’m told
I always wear my heart on my sleeve
I guess that’s how you ended up next to me

I know we can’t talk too loud
But I can’t help what I feel inside

Some things I’ve done are foolish I know
Can’t even count the “I told you so’s”
But I’d rather learn to live with my regrets
And be happy for all the people I met Like you

So Thanks for lending me your precious time
I can’t forget how you make me sigh …cause you still do

I don’t know what you’ve been told
But I am quite sure you know the secrets I hold

Sometimes I like to take the longer way
And not always be so careful what I say
I always wear my heart on my sleeve
And look how it brought you like next to me

Now part of me just wants to die
Then again I wake up and I know I’ll be fine

I said,
Part of me just wants to die
Then again I wake up and I think of you and I know I’ll be fine

I’ll be fine… I’ll be fine…. We’ll be fine…

I am quite sure you know the secrets I hold...

And it’s fine We’ll be fine We’ll be fine…..

Most Definitely

You say you don’t know me
So listen good cause here’s the truth
My mind might be distant
But my heart is always set on you

And when I look into your big big eyes
I drown as I should
And I think to myself it can’t be easy
For you to know how much I love you

Ref //Yes, I do…….I love you
Yes I do…I still do//

I never laughed so much, my stomach’s sore to touch
No humor sick like ours
The way you look at me, the way you make me free
The way you let me be me

Ref… Solo..

Remember our picnic
On that day when the sun was bright
Then way out of nowhere
Thunder came and opened the sky

I never ran so fast
The clouds came over us
Off course we were soaked when we found cover at last
I still can see us underneath that tree
We just smiled and then you kissed me

Ref…

//I most definitely need you
I most definitely want you
I most definitely love you//

//I most definitely//

Lalala- la la….

Things might be impossible but at least now you know the truth

Early Morning Jet

Early Morning Jet by Sarah Chesler

Today I will be leaving and tomorrow will be hard
Got to tell you I’m so happy although we’re so far apart
Cause I’d rather have the memories of kissing in the dark
Than always keep on wondering I wonder where you are

//I’ll take the early morning jet
I’ll take the early morning jet
I’ll take the early morning jet
Get ready, set go//

I can’t tell you where I’m going cause I don’t know where I’ve been
But one thing that’s for sure now it’s with you I want to be
Off course I understand you if your patience running thin
And though I can’t find a way now
I know I know I know I will

//I’ll take the early morning jet….//

//I can’t believe how many years have past from when we first began
To play this game of hide and seek there’s no place left to run//

Time flies by so quickly or at least that’s what they say
Every day that I am missing you feels longer than the next
When I close my eyes I feel your touch and know that you are there
I can’t wait until I’m in your arms
My heart’s already there

//I’ll take the early morning jet…// woo-o-o…..

//I can’t believe how many years have past from when we first began
To play this game of hide and seek There’s no place left to run//

Maybe

Maybe by Sarah Chesler

Maybe
You’ll walk me home tonight
Under the city lights
We are blinded by the beauty of this night

We’ll make it right this time
No more butterflies
Just you and I…..

Maybe we’ll keep on walking hand in hand
Maybe we’ll keep on talking ‘til daylight

piano

I thought I saw the sun come raining down
Although insane
I caught some rays right in my left hand

Maybe we’ll keep on walking hand in hand
Maybe we’ll keep on talking 'til daylight
Maybe we'll keep on walking hand in hand
Maybe we'll keep on talking until the day that we die

(piano)
Maybe
You’ll walk me home tonight
Under the city lights
We are blinded by the beauty of this night
