Bio

With 20 years experience behind her as a talented side musician, the spotlight now shines brightly on Sarah Clanton Schaffer with her long-awaited debut album: Chasin’ A Feeling. Based out of Greenville, South Carolina, Sarah is taking center stage with attitude and exuberance. Alongside her faithful cello, Sarah's silky vocals, original compositions and songs sparkle and dance. “Sarah is full of surprises. Her demeanor is demure, her music is dark-edged with a satirical bite. Sarah has imagination, bravado and the technical chops to turn you into a believer,” Peter Himmelman. Chasin’ A Feeling, Sarah's own declaration of independance, includes ten of her own originals, showcasing a variety of styles and abilities. The listener takes a journey with Sarah complete with sultry jazz elements and acoustic ballads, paired with a little rock and roll as vehicles for her clever yet quirky lyrics. Feeling at home with this variety, Sarah demonstrates her skills as a versatile musician in her use of vocals, cello, guitar and mandolin. “Armed with a voice as big and powerful as her cello, Sarah commands the stage. I’m truly inspired by her infectious songs and engaging performance,” David Mayfield.

Classically trained from the age of five through her time at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina where she majored in music and communications, Sarah has explored many styles of music from the orchestra setting, to rock 'n roll, to commercial writing with Hummingbird Productions in Nashville, Tennessee. Along with exploring the festival circuit, Sarah has opened for Edwin Mccain supporting Taylor Moore, the innovative cellist Ben Sollee, Samantha Crain, The David Mayfield Parade and with her full band as Sarah Schaffer & The Clanton Road in support of My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses. Sarah is a woman of many talents as her interests also expand to festival production as the producer and director of the solar-powered music festival Music in the Woods at Paris Mountain State Park in Greenville, South Carolina for four years. Now, after the success of her Kickstarter campaign in January 2013, Sarah was able to record her first solo record at Suma Studios in Painesville Ohio with Grammy nominated producer David Mayfield, with whom she toured on cello in 2012 in the David Mayfield Parade. Accompanying her on this record are some of her musical compadres from that tour. Now as she continues to explore a path all her own Sarah is now touring in support of Chasin’ a Feeling.
