Bio

Sarah Ferri was raised in a warm Belgian-Italian home. Fascinated by the uniqe singing styles of nightingales like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday en Nina Simone, she started writing her own creative and remarkable songs. Their dark, fairytale-like character was influenced by the bare truth of seventies folk music en cheerful gipsy jazz swing from the fifties.
In the summer of 2008 Sarah won the contest ‘Jonge Wolven’ or ‘Young Wolves’ in Ghent. She had also been writing arrangements for backing vocals (Soafia Ferri, Emmanuelle Schotsaert, Tine Roelens en Jessie Willemse) and surrounded herself with great musicians like Kan Oelbrandt (guitar), Steven van Holsbeeck (double bass) en Jonathan Calens (drums).

In 2009, Sarah Ferri played at Dranouter festival. Then, she was invited to sing together with Pieter Embrechts & The New Radio Kings and she performed as the support for Caro Emerald (AB), Jools Holland (Arenbergschouwburg Antwerp & Beursschouwburg Bruges) and Simply Red (Sportpaleis Antwerp). During a concert at The Music Village the people from AB noticed Sarah, which led to a participation in the project Artist in Residence.

The debut album Ferritales was recorded in a rapid pace during a very busy summer festival season in 2011. The album was produced by Koen Gisen (An Pierlé & White Velvet), who also worked on records by The Bony King Of Nowhere and Kiss The Anus of a Black Cat. Tim Young did the mastering in the famous Metropolis studio in London, where important names like Florence & The Machine, Mark Ronson and The Rolling Stones recorded their album.

In the meantime, Sarah has been performing her music all over the country. She also supported several big artists like Michael Kiwanuka, Rumer, Jools Holland and Simply Red. Her performance at Eurosonic 2013 set off the itch to go further abroad.
