Biography

Many musicians know their musical calling early on in life, pinpointing instruments, lyrics, and styles that only later confine them to a mold. Others are born with an insatiable curiosity, finding inspiration in all aspects of the craft. Sarah Hargett is one of those musicians. Growing up in Greenville, South Carolina, she began her first piano lessons at the age of five. Sarah was always encouraged to explore music, compose, and perform. Her natural love for music led her to order her own drum set off of the internet (without parental permission) when she was eleven. Sarah taught herself to play drums by meticulously practicing along with the Goo Goo Dolls' "Black Balloon" single. In the meantime, she was learning how to play trombone in the school band. She soon added guitar to her arsenal, poring over tabs of the Dixie Chicks, Carole King, John Mayer, Lauryn Hill, and the Beatles. Being a "secret singer" for most of her life, Sarah successfully auditioned her freshman year of college for the Furman Singers, unleashing a new singing machine. Sarah spent four years studying classical voice and trombone, as well as jazz and improvisation, and has still not satisfied her curiosity yet. Sarah performed solo and with fellow vocalist and guitarist Gwyn Fowler around town, and gained a following of adoring local fans. The incredible array of musical influences in Sarah's life have come together in a style that is all her own, with a voice described as ranging from "twangy and bluesy to soft and sultry," while her "meticulous guitar complements the raw honesty and precision of her song lyrics." The recent college grad is new to Nashville, honing her skills and performing regularly around town. Sarah Hargett is a voice all her own, with a questioning youthfulness yet grounded maturity that gives her music incredible depth and soul.

Lyrics

Snow Day

Written By: Sarah Hargett

oh it's snowing on this saturday mornin, and i just wanna stay inside
cuddle under sheets with my baby, tonight we'll be toasty by the fireside

but i gotta go to work today, part time gig that barely pays - tryin to put some money away
so meanwhile baby let's pretend our private plane has landed
on our secret island

oh i wanna kiss you
beneath the palm trees
i wanna tumble tumble tumble in the sand
i wanna build our own sand castle
based on our own dreams and plans
let's walk along the beach and watch the small waves flirt with the sand
and today will be a good one as long as you just hold my hand

i'm skippin work on this saturday mornin cuz i'm a little preoccupied
quality time with my baby - not time for a ma'am or a sir or a deadline
we're gonna hang around today, waste some time, lose some pay
be as lazy as we can be
let's float into our fantasy way down south across the sea
to our secret island

oh i wanna kiss you
beneath the palm trees
i wanna tumble tumble tumble in the sand
i wanna build our own sand castle
based on our own dreams and plans
let's walk along the beach and watch the small waves flirt with the sand
and today will be a good one as long as you just hold my hand

oh but we should live in the present
live in the now
live in the moment
however we know how

oh i wanna kiss you beneath the pine trees
i wanna tumble tumble tumble in the snow
i wanna build a little igloo that we'll have to call our own
let's sit behind the glass and watch the snowflakes dance from the sky
and today will be a great one as long as you just hold me tight...keep me warm.

keep me warm...

it's snowing on this saturday mornin, and i just wanna stay inside.
