Bio

Many musicians know their musical calling early on in life, pinpointing instruments, lyrics, and styles that only later confine them to a mold. Others are born with an insatiable curiosity, finding inspiration in all aspects of the craft. Sarah Hargett is one of those musicians. Growing up in Greenville, South Carolina, she began her first piano lessons at the age of five. Sarah was always encouraged to explore music, compose, and perform. Her natural love for music led her to order her own drum set off of the internet (without parental permission) when she was eleven. Sarah taught herself to play drums by meticulously practicing along with the Goo Goo Dolls' "Black Balloon" single. In the meantime, she was learning how to play trombone in the school band. She soon added guitar to her arsenal, poring over tabs of the Dixie Chicks, Carole King, John Mayer, Lauryn Hill, and the Beatles. Being a "secret singer" for most of her life, Sarah successfully auditioned her freshman year of college for the Furman Singers, unleashing a new singing machine. Sarah spent four years studying classical voice and trombone, as well as jazz and improvisation, and has still not satisfied her curiosity yet. Sarah performed solo and with fellow vocalist and guitarist Gwyn Fowler around town, and gained a following of adoring local fans. The incredible array of musical influences in Sarah's life have come together in a style that is all her own, with a voice described as ranging from "twangy and bluesy to soft and sultry," while her "meticulous guitar complements the raw honesty and precision of her song lyrics." The recent college grad is new to Nashville, honing her skills and performing regularly around town. Sarah Hargett is a voice all her own, with a questioning youthfulness yet grounded maturity that gives her music incredible depth and soul.
