Driven to create music and art all her life, Sarah Jane often channeled experiences from real life for her inspiration.
"I sing about everyday stuff, keeping it real and little situations, or something that's really bothering me," says Jane.
Now, the 27-year-old Santa Cruz resident is ready to release the fruit of her musical creativity to the masses. Her first album, "Real," comes out Oct. 1, with a follow up CD release party on Oct. 17 at the Catalyst.
Jane has long been anticipating the release of her compilation.
"I'm influenced by everything. I would say: rock, alternative, with a hip-hop influence, R&B-based riffs," says Jane about her eclectic style of music. "The hardest part of making the album has been working with someone else and having each song come out how you want it to come out."
With a sound reminiscent of Gwen Stefani, Pink and Lily Allen, Jane has taken about two years to write, record, and prepare to release the new album.
In the meantime though, she has performed in the Buddha Lounge in San Jose, Blake's in Berkeley and Henfling's in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Jane was born and raised in Santa Cruz until the age of 12, when she moved to Visalia.
She moved back to Santa Cruz at 19 after a short stint in the Sonoma State music program.
Working odd jobs, she steadily made enough money to be able to live in Santa Cruz, which she proudly claims has allowed her to grow as a musician and artist.
Overall, the response to her music has been positive for the most part. When friends suggest she move to Los Angeles she says, "I will just be one of millions, of people just like me. And here I'm still original and keep it real. You have to make your fan base wherever you are. If I can't make it here, I wouldn't be able to make it in L.A. either."
"Real" will be available on iTunes, CD Baby, and at Streetlight Records upon its release.

Our show on April 11th at The Blue Lagoon was an excellent showcase for 3 of the most talented bands currently playing in Santa Cruz, Serendipity Project, Sarah Jane, and Astro Zombies. Serendipity Project had the most votes on the night, and Alma wowed the crowd with her incredible vocals. Sarah Jane continues to build her fanbase here in Santa Cruz, because not only is she an amazing singer/ guitarist, but she is also fan friendly and beautiful, inside and out. - Your Music Magazine

I love Sarah Jane! I love these three songs, and am waiting till I can buy more. I'd love a copy of "Into the Fire" (will buy the CD that includes it) and am of course interested in hearing more songs. I've only heard the 5 on Sarah Jane's Myspace page, and am ready for more:) - CD Baby
