Bio

It’s been a wild journey. The story of Sarah-Jean Villa’s life is a tale of a wonderful, passionate, courageous woman who loves singing, songwriting and motivational speaking for youth. Sarah-Jean has been performing since she was three years old and has no intention of ever slowing down.

Unafraid to be adventurous, truthful, quirky, and edgy, Sarah-Jean prides herself on her creative abilities and desires to be an expressionistic performer, singer, and songwriter, drawing on personal life experiences to create music that is insightful and full of wisdom.

Born into a creative family she soon discovered she liked to be the center of attention and started off as a dancer at the age of three in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acro and then at the age of nine started singing lessons with Ian Garrett. Sarah-Jean spent most of her childhood performing as a singer/dancer, and was in various musicals and choirs. She has studied with various vocal teachers from early childhood, including Cindy Ashton, Eleanor Calbes, Jeffrey Huard and is now studying with Micah Barnes.

Sarah-Jean continued her studies at The Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts in Toronto, further cementing her resolve that singing and performing is something that she wanted to do for the rest of her life. With the help of Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts she sharpened her skills and her dreams. She also got introduced to the world of acting at Randolph. Since graduating from Randolph she has performed in SNOW WHITE THE BULLY SHOW as Snow White, and with MIXED COMPANY THEATRE as Stacy, in schools across Ontario; The Summer Works Festival in EVERY NIGHT’S HOT AT THE VA VA VOOM! as Florence; in the musical GREASE as Jan; in the musical BYE BYE BIRDIE as Joe; and MEDIEVAL TIMES as the Princess and Wench.

Since graduating from Randolph Sarah-Jean has dedicated herself to working on her own music, and has branched out to merge with other artists on different styles of music. After much searching and experimentation, Sarah-Jean discovered two certainties:1) She wanted to perform and, 2) She wanted to create her own music.

Sarah-Jean has appeared in numerous Feature Films, including the roles of Pockets in SNAPPED, which made it onto Rogers-On-Demand and into Blockbuster Video Stores. Other feature films that Sarah-Jean appeared in were; 11 DAYS WITH IVAN as Carmen; AWAKENING as Vikki in addition to being a feature singer on the movie soundtrack; and DOLLAR PATEL as Kathy. Sarah-Jean was dubbed the “Wild Card” on Much Music’s ROCKSTAR SUPERMODEL by SD&R CLOTHING, the show’s judges.

Sarah-Jean was introduced to producers Roman and Mike Zebik which lead their collaboration in creating the song “Missing You” for the film AWAKENING. This lead to her association with Grammy Nominated producer Mark Zubek with whom she started working with on her own original music. Together they worked to refine her debut single “Cherry Boy” which went on to win the Song of the Year contest in 2007 in the rock category. Sarah-Jean continued to work with Mark Zubek on her second single “Goddess”.

Sarah-Jean went on to work on her first album “Rock & Roll Princess” with producer Matthew Von Wagner. This album was written in Sarah-Jean darkest hour and was never released.

Sarah-Jean has been through serious struggles on her wild journey such as addiction, eating disorders, depression, self-esteem issues and sexual abuse. She had overcome such trauma in her life and music was the one thing that kept her going. Clean & sober for over four years Sarah-Jean began a healing journey where she found her voice, regained her confidence, and self-esteem with the help of her supportive loved ones and friends. On her healing journey Sarah-Jean discovered that she was given a second chance to make a positive change in the lives of others, thru music. In 2011 Sarah-Jean played a major role with the Girls Rock Camp Mississauga teaching young underprivileged girls not only vocalization, but on how to develop positive self esteem thru her workshop ROCK YOUR TRUE INNER BEAUTY.

Sarah-Jean Villa has also been involved helping out in the community playing her first show alongside FeFe Dobson and Canadian Idol winner Melissa O'Neil at the Opera House to help raise money for The Interval House; singing to raise money for Aids; singing to rise money for cancer at Relay for Life; Take Back The Night singing to raise money for Sexual Abuse; worked as a volunteer for World Aids Day, Sick Kids and The Salvation Army helping out the homeless. Sarah-Jean decided that in 2012 for her birthday she wanted to do something different to continue the work she has been doing giving back to the community by volunteering with "Straight To The Streets" a clothing drive for the homeless. She realized over the years that material things don't bring you true happiness only self- love and love for others does.

Sarah-Jean’s current vocal and career coach Micah Barnes, played a huge part in guiding
