"CD REVIEW - Superbleu"

"CD REVIEW: Superbleu
By Sarah LeMieux

I was handed this CD by Momma Sarah herself! On Saturday Aug. 25th. It's only been a week since I have had this amazing work of art in my sweet little hands, though I did need to put it down because it was just melting through my skin because, let me tell you, it's SMOKIN' HOT!!!

I will give my own opinion on this disc, though please keep in mind, this MY OWN opinion and you need to give it a listen for yourself. Like I mentioned, I have only owned this disc for less than one week at the time of this review and I literally listened to it OVER seventy five times!!! It just goes round and round and round nonstop in my car stereo. I have been caught many times wailing out…"MOMMA'S GOT THE CONFUSION"!!!!! at many a traffic light. I seem to just look over and say …"yeaaaaaaaah!, if you ONLY knew.

Moonshine kicks off Superbleu with a thick bassy riff reminiscent of the opening lines of the theme from Jaws. Then it just seems to dive out of the waters and swallows you whole! Like the entire CD, it's certainly an intoxicating number fo' sure!

Baloolah Blues is an incredible shot of the 'ol time blues, with the static of an old '78 playin' on the phonograph. The slide work is immaculate!

Le Temps is sweet like honey melting on your lips in the summer shade

Homesick, is a song of an incredible journey of a young woman , a personal event in one's life that is unreturnable, only to be locked in the memory.

Momma's Got the Confusion, I thought for awhile that Momma Sarah hired Mr. Noel Redding & Mr. Mitch Mitchell for her rhythm section! This is by far my personal fav'. "You got to read the truth behind the lies, between the lines" this line here just rips me in two!

Old Man (Neil Young), I've never heard Neil Young ever sound so sweet in my life.

Blues Stew, this one just make you so hungry for more ……of the sweet, soulful, jazzy, electrically emotional blues of this cd. There just isn't enough material here…for me, I geuss that is why it just keeps on goin' round on repeat!

Manhattan,……woooooooooh! Momma Sarah's answer to Sinatra's New York, New York, and sung so sweetly, it would make any major city jealous.

This is such an absolute powerfully and emotionally charged record of songs, the musicianship on this cd is so raw and tight. The feeling I had the first time I listened to it was that of getting struck by a bolt of lighting and living through it, just seemingly walking around dazed, and burning from the inside tingling with astonishment." - Andrew Wallach

"Blown Away"

"It was one night, actually more like the early hours of the morning, when I put Sarah's album on, plugged in my headphones and was just blown away." - Indie Launchpad - Colin Meeks

"Melts the Audience"

"The disc covers a wide variety of styles - you get a taste of Etta, a dash of electric Chicago, a bit of modernized psychedelia, a twist of the Delta, and just a droplet of that late-night, late-set blues that simply melts the audience. Best of all, everything is tied together with one of the most gorgeous blues voices I've heard in a long while. In short, it rocks start to finish. " - Ed Giza/iggli.com

"WOW!"

WOW! I'm speechless right now, listening to "Momma's Got..."..hold on...
- Ursula Romanowski, Nowhere to Go Radio

"Smokin' Hot"

"Sarah LeMieux is smokin' hot! This blues diva can wail, and her pickin' can't be beat." - Bess Romano, formerly of USA Today

"Delta Spirits"

"A woman channeling some serious delta spirits." - Elizabeth Carpenter

"Sassy Young Lass"

"...a sassy young lass with such a kick-ass voice!"
- The Puppini Sisters

"Fearsome"

"Momma Sarah Le Mieux is one fearsome guitar slingin' blues singin' woman. If her growl tiger vocal stylings and her stunning slide work could be wired for electricity, it'd be powerful enough to keep her hometown of New York City lit up for years to come. Yet there is also a tender side that can lilt out a French lyric lullaby as gentle as duckling down."
- Veronique Chevalier - Blue Railroad Magazine

Bio

At Sarah's last Georgetown Saloon gig, an audience member pronounced her voice "a cross between Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin." After opening for headliner E.G. Kight at North Carolina's National Women in Blues Festival this fall, and being featured on the Women in Blues compilation CD released by JoMar records, Sarah was approached by Japan's BSMF records, and just released her album in the Asian market. Sarah's smoky, silky voice, and unique brand of "storytelling" blues and jazz are getting people hooked all over the world, from Quebecois radio shows to Australian podcasts and everywhere in between.
