"Widow's daughter gets 4 out of 5 stars"

4 out of 5 stars

United Interest Sound Studios in Boulder has a stunning collection of vintage mics — mics that were made to record sounds like the ones on widow’s daughter.

Sarah Louise Pieplow, aka. “slp” has a three-octave voice and a sound that stepped right out of the pre-WWII era. The singer/songwriter doesn’t just rely on an old-time nostalgia, though. widow’s daughter finds the balance between old-timey and contemporary tracks, but when slp’s voice is at its best it’s easy to envision the sound coming from an antique radio. - Marquee Magazine

"Lizard Lounge loves slp"

Two standouts were Matthew Pezone and Sarah Louise Pieplow...

Sarah Louise Pieplow from Colorado is surely my kind of artist. Edgy and powerful, aggressive and then sweet, with constant and complete control over her performance. Sarah was a hit and if she finds her way back to Boston we’ll book her for sure! - The Backstage Beat

Bio

"Voluptuous and and intense, with a spectacular vocal range...slp scintillates and charms." - Guy Errickson, Colorado Music Buzz

slp’s voice, with its three octave range, lends to quiet folk contemplation, shocking soul, and raw punk sounds. It has been described as angelic and soulful, birdlike and desperate, and her rendition of Jeff Buckley’s ‘Lover, You Should’ve Come Over’ can silence a crowded bar.

This multi-instrumentalist, multilingual singer is also known for charismatic performances and banjo covers of French cabaret, Cape Verdean morna, and Russian mobster songs. Tightly crafted original lyrics - informed by her studies as a poet - build off clean old-time metaphors, and sprawl out stories of sardonic observation.

She is a Front Range studio favorite, and has recently shared the stage with Jonathan Byrd, Danielle At the Sandwich, Raina Rose, Danny Shafer, and Ramaya Soskin.

slp's studio album Widow’s daughter was released in June 2011 to strong reviews in Colorado Music Buzz and the Marquee; the opening track "Nevertheless, Love" spent 7 weeks on the Indie Radio Top Ten Countdown, reaching number 3; the album can currently be heard spinning on the Colorado Sound, and her new punk/folk EP Greedy pushy needy is in development.

"Sarah Louise Pieplow from Colorado is surely my kind of artist. Edgy and powerful, aggressive and then sweet, with constant and complete control over her performance. Sarah was a hit and if she finds her way back to Boston we’ll book her for sure!" - Tom Bianchi, Backstage Beat

"...when slp’s voice is at its best it’s easy to envision the sound coming from an antique radio." - Brian F. Johnson, editor, the Marquee

"I was glued...Sarah commands the mic as an Emiliana Torrini would, and not with a soulful shyness, but a soulful propensity like she doesn't have any other way. She is strong and efficient...She is fearless on stage...I can tell she believes it." -Miles Love
