Bio

A thousand thoughts spin round my face
I know you miss them one by one

Thus begins Virtue, the latest endeavour from singer/songwriter, Sarah McCully.
Born on the island of Papua New Guinea, Sarah eventually settled in Southern Ontario where she continues to make her home. Growing up, Sarah gravitated towards music and theatre. From an early age, Sarah worked tirelessly at her craft. Devouring the various forms of art that crossed her path.
Soon after graduating college, Sarah was in a head-on collision that left her unable to walk for the better part of a year. It was during the subsequent year and a half of rehabilitation that Sarah began to grapple with the concepts of patience and progress: two themes that would permeate her music in the years to come.
While working on her debut EP, Sliver Of You, Sarah formed a partnership with guitarist/producer/co-writer, Justin Abedin (Jacksoul, Simon Wilcox). Through countless hours of writing and discussion, Sarah began to fully embrace her lyrical voice and from that core the sound of Virtue was born.
The lead track “Nothing” harkens back to the sounds of Fleetwood Mac with a nod to the Dixie Chicks. On the heart-wrenching ballad “Take With You”, Sarah displays her vocal prowess in the torch style of k.d.lang and Emmylou Harris. Eastern inflected newgrass is born on “Old Wounds” as the colours of Led Zeppelin and Sheryl Crow collide. With this palette, Sarah has created an album that embodies her at this moment: imperfect, triumphant and emboldened with the emotional honesty of the artist.
In Virtue, Sarah asks the listener to examine their own virtues, to decide for themselves who they want to be, and to act on that without fear.
