Sarah Roberts

BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

My music is a blend of folk, blues and country reflecting my southern roots and mixes in a dash of whatever environment I'm currently surrounded by.

Biography

Growing up in North Carolina, my family was always playing music, and my desire to explore various styles was inspired by listening to such great artists as George Jones, Dolly Parton, Mahalia Jackson, Etta James, Otis Redding, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, and Nina Simone to name just a few.

While living in New York City, my music had an undeniably urban influence while performing/writing with the band, Mojo Bisquits. Now, as a soloist, my music has quieted and expanded spatially because my home is now in Arizona where the sky is seemingly as wide as the world. I love the exploration of new sounds and styles, but throughout my journey the base elements of folk, blues and country are still planted firmly in the foundation where I write from.

Dublin

I saw you, standing behind her looking my way
Pulling my knees down, I melt into you
It’s so easy to do
A little girl believes love will come true
It’s so easy to do

On the first day we met
I stood on the shoulders of my fears and regrets
Then fell forward, into your arms
Lifting me up, above the rest

Into the blinding light
You sent me soaring high
Til I couldn’t see through
And it’s so easy for you
How you linger in all that I do
It’s so easy for you

Down beneath where you lay
Against the walls that I climbed
The walls I broke free from
It was greater than me, the reasons to leave
And I hope that you saw

There was something inside of us holding us down
There was something irreverent, something profoundly
At ease, moving me
And it’s not easy to leave
So I took all this blame that you gave
But it’s not easy to see

And how I tried as hard as I could
Into the blinding light I stood
No looking back

So cheers to man in the gold velvet hat
And cheers to man who stands still in the back
I am nothing without them
Nothing before them to

So you walk in this bar with your head held high
Those eyes killing softly, with your girl and your pride
As I lay down before you in peace
But it’s not easy for me
Despite what you think, you think that you see
It’s not easy for me

Into the blinding light
You send me soaring high
Til I now can see through
And it’s so easy for you
How you linger in all that I do
It’s so easy for you
It’s so easy for you
It’s so easy for you

Ladybirds

Written By: Sarah Roberts

Susie, will you please come home
I miss you when the day is done
There’s something to be said, for this voice inside my head
But it don’t match up to what you started
It don’t match up to what you started

Angels say that you’re still here
You said angels sing to ease my fear
But ain’t no angels standing here
When I’m alone and the wind is quiet
Now I’m alone and the wind is quiet

Did you fly away, back to where you started from
You can lead the way and I’ll follow

Virginia can you see me now
I miss you in the changing tides
There’s something to be said for your faith inside my head
But it don’t match up to what you fought for
It don’t match up to what you fought for

Spent your life doing Christian good
Trying to find your home and your motherhood
I hope you recognize that you’re soul’s still good
Though you curse that man beside you
You curse that man who left you

Did you fly away, back to where you started from
We can meet one day and we’ll laugh together against the rising sun

Susie will you please come back
We miss you when the day is done
There’s something to be said, for your ghost inside our heads
But it don’t match up to what we’re still missing
It don’t match up to what we’re missing

Can we meet in the skies so blue
And can I be your daughter in the next life to
Shall we dance the seasons through and through
Until we leave this past behind us
Let us leave this past behind us

Let us fly away, back to where we started from
You can lead the way and we’ll follow

Fly, fly, fly…

Rough Stone

Cancel your words, let’s not speak anymore
I thought I was something that I was not before
This bargaining, this teasing, let us turn back to grace
Before this danger so clear, slaps us clear cross the face

I jumped rather quickly to seek the unknown
But I rocked back to the edge of my heels made of stone

A deal has been made, and I set up the price
You bartered for more, but accepted this vice
And made passes, and invites, we walked on the line
All the while disregarding our failing divine

While I jumped rather quickly to seek the unknown
I rocked back to the edge of my heels made of stone

A heat passes your fingertips and into my hair
My cheeks flush with weakness and foreshadow despair
If I let this move on, and straight into the night
I might lose all control, which seems kinda pleasing at times

I could jump rather quickly to seek the unknown
Would I rock back to the edge of my heels made of stone

If I turned back the time, could we start once again
Would you forgive my foolish games, and all these shadows within
It’s your slow, tender, soulful ways that catches my smile
If we just seek out that honest place, we could be friends for a while

And if I jump rather quickly to seek the unknown
I hope that I find the way back to my heels made of stone
