Sarah Woolever

Sarah Woolever

BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

As folk/rock as you can get with one female voice and one acoustic guitar. These songs are passionate and stem from real life experiences. Some may be edgier but all are distinctly feminine.

Biography

"Your voice is almost irritating" is not the compliment that Sarah Woolever wanted to hear after playing a show. Tom, the man that owns and books the 400 bar in Minneapolis, followed this first statement by saying that having a distinct and interesting voice sets Sarah apart, and makes people remember her sound. Sarah later thought about this idea as she looked through her influences in her itunes library: Janis Joplin, Jeff Hanson, Mason Jennings, Mike Doughty, the Decemberists, Des'ree & Gwen Stafani, just to name a few, all have different qualities to their voices and music. These qualities have made their audiences remember them and then listen to them for a second time. Although Sarah might advise Tom to use a more neutral word than "irritating" in the future, she now takes that comment as a compliment.

Creating and performing music is Sarah's life and livelihood. She is classically trained and has her BM in music therapy which she practices full time during the day. Sarah has played her music throughout the midwest for the past five years and has opened for national acts, such as Mason Jennings, Mathew Ryan, and Blue Eyed Son, as well as many other talented artists.

With every song she writes Sarah tries to showcase the range and agility in her voice. She originally learned to play guitar on a classical, and although she play an acoustic/electric steel string now, she still uses classical fingerpicking on many of her songs. Her songwriting is sometimes autobiographical, sometimes fictional, sometimes personal, sometimes funny, but always true and unique to her sound.

Warning

Written By: Sarah Woolever

I'm not the most intelligent person in the world
So you may not want me to be your girl
But I'm gettin' my act together
I can sing a song or two
Serenading sweetly for just you oh oh

I'm not the most attractive person in the world
So you may not want me to be your girl
But I'll wrap my warmth around you
You can place your hand in mine
Together who knows what we'll find

Oh

I'm not the most charming person in the world
So you may not want me to be your girl
Fidgety and stumbling
But you know my heart is true
We could be one from two

You were more than I had hoped for
You were more than I could see
You were more than I could ever believe
But I have to give this warning on me

I'm not the most successful person in the world
So you may not, you may not want me to be your girl
Two step forward one back
I've fucked up once or twice
The future will be better I surmise

Oh

You were more than I had hoped for
You were more than I could see
You were more than I could ever believe
But I have to give this warning on me

I'm not the most successful person in the world
So you may not, you may not want me to be your girl
Two step forward one back
I've fucked up once or twice
The future will be better I surmise

Oh

June

Written By: Sarah Woolever

I knew you were leaving before you ere gone
Before you hardly said hello
You were waiting for the curtain to fall
But you moved before the lights were low

Good bye came too soon
Good bye came way before it was suppose to
I never got to say good bye to my
June

Milk can't spill before it pours out
Glass can't break before it falls
Seasons don't change their order but
Sometimes we see
In winter, grass is still tall

Good bye came too soon
Good bye came way before it was suppose to
I never got to say good bye to my
June
June

Dust has settled and there's not trace left
Of you ever being around
Only the whispers of you memories
Will haunt me when there's not sound

Good bye came too soon
Good bye came way before it was suppose to
I never got to say good bye to my
June

Victim

Written By: Sarah Woolever

I played the victim
I used my honed skills
You took advantage
And that is how our love was killed

You played on while I sat back and looked over
You turned away as I rounded down my shoulders

Hold on one more time
Hold on one more time
Hold on one more time
Hold on one more

I let it happen
I could've said no at first
You didn't notice
But being numb can't be worse

I reached out but you took my heart and sold it
How many times would I let myself get folded?

Hold on one more time
Hold on one more time
Hold on one more time
Hold on one more

Oh

I lost myself
I had no more sense to feel
You ran me over
with you oversized truck wheels

I thought that our love would last forever
Gave you permission before she was even there
We told lies, we thought we were so clever
I knew then, that it was now or never

Hold on one more time
Hold on one more time
Hold on one more time
Hold on one more

Oh

I thought that our love would last forever
Gave you permission before she was even there
We told lies, we thought we were so clever
I knew then, that it was now or never

That I can't hold on one more time
I just can't hold on one more time
I can't hold on one more time
Hold on one more time
Hold on one more time
Hold on one more time
