Bio

"Your voice is almost irritating" is not the compliment that Sarah Woolever wanted to hear after playing a show. Tom, the man that owns and books the 400 bar in Minneapolis, followed this first statement by saying that having a distinct and interesting voice sets Sarah apart, and makes people remember her sound. Sarah later thought about this idea as she looked through her influences in her itunes library: Janis Joplin, Jeff Hanson, Mason Jennings, Mike Doughty, the Decemberists, Des'ree & Gwen Stafani, just to name a few, all have different qualities to their voices and music. These qualities have made their audiences remember them and then listen to them for a second time. Although Sarah might advise Tom to use a more neutral word than "irritating" in the future, she now takes that comment as a compliment.

Creating and performing music is Sarah's life and livelihood. She is classically trained and has her BM in music therapy which she practices full time during the day. Sarah has played her music throughout the midwest for the past five years and has opened for national acts, such as Mason Jennings, Mathew Ryan, and Blue Eyed Son, as well as many other talented artists.

With every song she writes Sarah tries to showcase the range and agility in her voice. She originally learned to play guitar on a classical, and although she play an acoustic/electric steel string now, she still uses classical fingerpicking on many of her songs. Her songwriting is sometimes autobiographical, sometimes fictional, sometimes personal, sometimes funny, but always true and unique to her sound.
