Bio

Beautiful songwriting and harmonies backed up by sultry sax & rhythmic bass, the sisters Sara & Kamila are modern-day minstrels who deliver exciting, soulful performances. Hailing from the extreme east coast of Canada - St. John’s, Newfoundland - Sara & Kamila's life experiences have developed their extensive musical repertoire. Social, environmental and emotional issues inspire their songs. Their melodies have jazz, blues and pop elements melding with more traditional folk. Spine-tingling harmonies, vivid lyrical imagery and open emotional honesty are main elements of their music.

In their live shows, Sara & Kamila are able to draw audiences into their world. Their ability to relate to audiences through their introductions and their songs leaves people with the distinct impression that these women are confiding in them in a personal and intimate way. They back their songs up as multi-instrumentalists. They both play acoustic guitar and piano. Sara also plays mandolin and banjo while Kamila plays flute, Celtic harp and theremin. The back-up band of Stone on sax and Marshall on bass greatly enhances the sisters' polished sound. The sisters can perform with their band or as a duo.

In fall of 2003, Sara & Kamila released their sophomore CD, Chasing Fireflies. It has since been garnering attention as they embarked an extensive year-long tour to promote it across Canada. They have become fan-favorites at folk clubs and folk festivals alike. The group was nominated for several 2004 Music Industry of Newfoundland & Labrador Awards: Group of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, New Artist of the Year and Folk/Roots Album of the Year.

Sara & Kamila ended their national tour back home at the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Festival in August. They also recently performed at the open-air Acadian Concert Series and the Deep Roots Festival in Wolfville, Nova Scotia and the Peterborough Folk Festival . Other career highlights include opening for Canadian Juno Award-winner David Francey at the Arts & Culture Center in St. John’s in 2003 and performances at the Winnipeg Folk Festival (2002), Blue Skies Folk Festival (2000, 2002), and Trout Forest Music Festival (2001, 2002). The group performed an official showcase at the Saskatchewan Showcase of the Arts in October.

Sara & Kamila and band will hit the road for another cross-Canada tour this spring.
