At the CMA's "A Nashville Night in the Carolinas" a couple of weeks ago I had the good fortune to run into Sara Scott for the first time in months. This time I noticed a difference in her. She had a twinkle in her eye - a light was on and an energy came from her which told me that something had changed for her! She said she had lot's to share and we needed to catch up as she began to set up with her band on stage.

For those who don't know Sara Scott, she's a lovely 20-something singer-songwriter from right here in Charlotte. She has primarily been involved in Christian or spiritual music to date. Her 2009 CD "The Way Of Things" met critical local success within the religious music genre and resulted in a solid fan base. You may have heard her on the Gospel Music Channel, at a Charlotte Checkers game, or seen her perform at a local venue - she's performed at the Evening Muse with the Tosco House Party on several occasions.

So Wednesday we connected over coffee and she shared her reasons for excitement. Seems Sara experienced an epiphany the middle of last year. One that she feels liberated her and which has released an energy within her. Sara realized that she REALLY likes mainstream music and it's ok if she spreads her wings in the pursuit of that dream. "I can't stop writing! My confidence with arranging and creative ideas is soaring. The songs are flowing out of me like I have never experienced, and they are different than anything I have ever created. I can't wait to share it with anyone who will listen."

Sara is currently working on her second album which she targets for release in the Spring of 2011. She has the new sound in her head, now she's looking for a studio who can work with her and her band to capture that vision. She has realized that she can't do it all by herself and will need a team to get her to the next level in her career. Addressing this, Sara and her inner circle are looking for Management.

To help her achieve her goals and broaden her fan base Sara is actively pursuing performance opportunities. Lately she has been performing with Hannah Miller within the region and is expanding the Charlotte venues for bookings. She has the original material, she has the band, and she's scheduling the opportunities to show her immense talent. Sara's performing at "Find Your Muse" Monday & the "Tosco House Party" Wednesday as well as the 8PM time-slot at the Evening Muse during the NoDa Gallery Crawl Sept 3rd. Check out Sara's MySpace page for the rest of her September schedule!

It's easy to see why the fire was so bright in Sara's eyes when I saw her a couple of weeks ago. A full length album outside her "traditional" genre underway, completed putting a band together, has begun to build her business team, feeling very creative with lots of songwriting and an expanded performance schedule - what's not to love?!

Keep an eye out for her appearances and keep a blessing in your heart for her success!

Bio

Sara Scott is a 26 year old singer/songwriter from Charlotte, NC. She grew up in a small Midwest town, but is officially a city girl after being in the Queen City for 12+ years. Raised by a father who was a recording artist in Nashville and a mother with a deep, passionate love for great music, her home was filled with music 24/7. Sara started playing piano by ear at the age of 2, writing songs at age 8, and says of picking up the guitar at age 16, "It was kind of the last piece of this mysterious puzzle that is my song writing and music making career. It opened up this whole other world of music to me. My dad taught me most of the basic chords, plus House of the Rising Sun, and a little Jim Croce, and away I went."
7 years of opportunities, experiences, and lots of performances followed, and on July 27, 2009, Sara independently released her first solo studio project, a 9 song Gospel/Contemporary Christian album titled The Way of Things. "In a lot of ways that album was the exhale of what my life had been over the past 3 1/2 years leading up to it's conception. My dad had passed away suddenly in 2005, an event that by itself completely changed my life. But at the same time as that happened, and for the 3 years following, I had all kinds of life change happening, personally, professionally, emotionally. Lots of life experience was gained all at once, and I was in a very contemplative place. The album definitely showcases that." While the album was a success in Charlotte, selling 1,200 physical copies and digital copies combined in 12 months, it was not noticed much outside of Charlotte. "We tried. But in hindsight, it wasn't meant to be at the time."
Why? "I love that album. It was therapy. It was release. It marks a distinct time in my life. But I don't think I was ever in love with those songs. I'm so grateful for the entire process and for coming to that realization. It taught me a valuable lesson. I learned how to really figure out who I wanted to be musically, what would make me happy and excited, and I started to create art that I was excited to share with other people. If the 2009 album had garnered a large amount of success, and my career would have taken off in that direction, it would have been a nightmare for everyone involved. Everything happens for a reason."
Now in the studio working on her second album, Sara says she finally feels like she's headed in the right direction, and she has the wind in her sails she's been waiting on for a long time. "I've never written so much, never worked so hard and been so excited about something as I am these songs and this album. It's such a departure from my previous one, but in the best of ways. I'm happy now. I'm at such a great and exciting place in my life, and I know that no matter what happens with the album, I will have succeeded in capturing the essence and soul of this collection of songs. I've realized that I have to be in love with the music I make. I have to want to play it, want to share it, even if no one likes it, I still do. But hopefully, other people do, too."
