Sara began posting YouTube videos of her acoustic covers only seven months ago and since then she has already received acclaim for her music from famous names such as producer/songwriter Aaron Accetta, vocal coach Renee Grant Williams and Four States Living Magazine. "Sara Skinner"

WOW! Amazing voice that just embraces your soul. Truly the work of an angel. That is how I can describe this next artist. I have to tell you about an unbelievable new artist that I am looking forward to seeing at NAMM at the Lampifier Microphone booth next week. That incredible voice belongs to beautiful and talented, Sara Skinner.

I first heard about Sara and was asked to check out one of her cover songs that she does on her Youtube channel. She actually sings live on her videos but also has her original work. I didn’t get the chance to watch the covers, then I got asked to watch her video for her release of her original song, “Break”. After the first second of hearing her voice, I was just captivated. She has such a smooth voice with mysterious edges that just leave you longing for more. It is funny since she posts her cover songs in hopes of getting viewers to listen to her originals. For me, after watching ”Break”, I sat and watched a dozen or so of her covers just to see if that angelic voice flows through all her music. And guess what, it does. This is one talented artist and I really look forward to hearing more from her. - Music Junkie Press

"The Vacant: Music You Must Own"

Sara Skinner has one of those voices that get stuck in your head. Her range is eclectic, and the power is obviously from deep inside her soul. She began as a youtube sensation, doing cover song, after cover song. I must admit, I am not one fond of musicians that do cover songs, but Sara's renditions were so much better, so much more unique, it drew me into her. I discovered Sara's music and talents after seeing an online post by the band, Angels Fall. I heard her cover of the Alicia Keys' smash single, "Girl on Fire", and I was completely blown away. She added darkness, and a whole new depth to the single. Now, please don't get caught up in Sara's ability to completely master cover songs. Sara Skinner has some amazing originality in her own rights. Her first breakthrough song and video, was for her original track, "Break". The video can be found on her youtube link below, and it is so compelling, you want to dive right into her entire catalogue. My favorite track off the current EP, is titled, "The Only One". Lyrically one of the best songs I've heard, and it will become contagious to your ears. Sara has laced this track with brilliance and it holds an excellent message. Judge for yourself, order the EP today! If there is a weakness on Sara's record, it would have to be the track, "Unchangeable". This song is good, don't get me wrong, but it seems to almost be a "filler" of sorts, though Sara's vocals seem to make every song addicting. "With You" is quite simply beautiful. Sara took a different approach with this track, and it is obvious with her tone and lyrics. If you want to crank a song up, other than "Break", I would definitely turn the volume up on this one my friends. Finally, "Holding On", shows us her diversity. Sara has a beautiful, direct voice, yes; however, she has distinction. Radio will know her very soon, and you will too. With over 5,000 subscribers, and more everyday, Sara is reeling fans in, by the hundreds. The key to her success seems to be that it's not about the fame, it seems to be about the music and fans with her. Sara recently attended the NAMM Convention, and there is little doubt the representatives there were blessed to catch a performance, and to meet her. If you want to compare Sara to any artists out there today, I would suggest Sarah McLachlan or Christina Perri. However, as heard on "Break", Sara is different, and in this instance, "different" is quite good. - Jason Thompson

"Knox Focus 24/7"

"The talent level has definitely reached new heights. One artist that really emerged ahead of the pack is Sara Skinner. She possesses a voice like Lana Del Ray, a writing style like Avril Lavigne, and a stage presence like Alanis Morissette in her prime. Few times do I tell a new emerging talent to follow their dream; the odds of making it, after all, are nearly astronomical. But with astronomy comes bright stars and I seriously think Sara Skinner will be a bright star in the future. I cannot stress enough that this is one artist that should be on everyone’s radar." - Dan Andrews

"Sara Skinner Rocks Youtube"

With a voice that is powerful, haunting and angelic, Sara Skinner is one of the most intriguing singer-songwriters on YouTube today. The 19 year-old alternative, pop-rock recording artist from Texarkana, Texas is quickly building a global fan following and even getting radio airplay for her music.

“I always liked writing songs when I was a kid but I didn’t like to ever do it in front of anybody,” Sara said in a recent interview with StayFamous.Net.

When her parents recognized her gift for writing and performing, they encouraged her to enter talent shows. In 2009, she got her first big break, when her song was voted into the Top 10 nationwide in a songwriting contest for K-LOVE radio.

“That was really the first time I started doing any original music in front of people,” she said.

After receiving such a positive response from listeners, she continued to upload more music videos to YouTube. In the span of a year, she has garnered more than 1 Million plays for her breathtaking covers of songs like “Diet Mountain Dew” by Lana Del Rey, “Listen” by Beyonce, “The A Team” by Ed Sheeran, “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys and “Try” by Pink.

Recognizing the power of social media, she also began connecting with fans through Facebook and Twitter and building a street team to promote her music.

“Twitter has really brought me a lot of exposure,” Sara said.

She now has more than 36,000 Twitter followers, whom she regularly interacts with. In fact, many fans are surprised when she follows them back, re-tweets them, answers their questions and shares new material with them.

She may be popular now, but like many girls, there was a time when she faced the pressures of high school, something she has written about in her very personal and emotional song “Break.”

“It’s about my experience in high school with being bullied by mean girls,” Sara explained.

Although it is hard to imagine that someone as beautiful and talented as Sara ever faced the challenges of bullying when she was younger, she was able to use those feelings to pen one of her most popular songs.

Watch the Music Video for “Break” by Sara Skinner:

Over the past few months, The Beach 96.5 FM in Corpus Christi, Texas added “Break” to their playlist and she was chosen as a featured artist on the radio show “Next in the Biz with Megan and Liz.” Her self-produced music video for the song was also selected by RockOnTheAir.com as the “Video of the Month.”

Even though she has not signed with a major record label yet, Sara isn’t letting that stop her from achieving her dreams. She has aggressively sought out opportunities in the music business and built new relationships with writers and producers.

“Avril Lavigne is my favorite artists and I sent an email to her very first producer and co-writer,” Sara said. “That is something that I’m really proud of, because he wanted to work with me, and we ended up doing four songs together.”

The resulting tracks, along with several more from her first EP are being held until she has the opportunity to release them.

“I’m working on getting signed by a label and hopefully we can release those songs the right way,” she said.

In the mean time, Sara is putting her creativity and marketing skills to good use by building her own “brand” and creating her own promotional materials.

“I really just look at all the other people who are pretty successful right now that are at the next step that I want to be at,” Sara said. Using their marketing materials as a guide, she then models the intros to her videos and other promotional campaigns after what is proven to work.

But in the end, what sets her apart from many other aspiring singers on YouTube is her originality and her desire to put her own spin on the songs she sings. With each new song, she is learning, growing and taking her music to a new level.

For the fans who have supported her music along the way Sara says, “I love them! Thank you for supporting me from the beginning. And to the new fans, you guys rock too!”

"Next In The Biz with Megan & Liz"

Twin pop duo Megan & Liz got their start online, uploading covers and original songs to YouTube before they were signed to a record label. In fact, we featured them as the Saturday Night Online Web Celebs of the Week before they got their big break. Their debut song "Bad For Me" went on to become a radio hit, and after having them on the show multiple times (and becoming great friends), we decided to give them their own feature on Saturday Night Online. The girls are paying it forward by highlighting some of music's rising stars. Each week, the talented sisters give us their pick for Next in the Biz with Megan & Liz.

"Sara Skinner - INDIEMUSICBUS Artist of the Month March 2013"

‘Break’ was the first song I listened to and I loved the soft introduction with vocals and piano; it created such a beautiful atmosphere. Sara’s voice had such a soft and acoustic tone to it, which I thought sounded really nice, especially in the chorus where she sang falsetto which sounded even more beautiful. Another good feature was how the piano became slightly more melodic and had some nice counter melodies alongside the vocals as the song progressed. The second verse had harmonies and strings which was a great addition; it added a sense of forward progression but also built the texture and feel of the song. Additionally the vocal harmonies were more close-knit in the chorus than the verse; which was good in creating contrast. I really liked the middle section of the section; it had just higher piano notes and vocals, and was really soft and beautiful. What I loved most about this was how suddenly the drums and guitar came in and established a rock feel. This was a fantastic and unexpected change, then a beautiful change back for the ending.

‘Unchangeable’ was the other original song I listened to and I really liked the slow rock feel clearly established at the beginning; it was a great contrast to the other song. I also liked how the guitar rhythm was quite rhythmic; in my eyes this kept time more than the drums. Another interesting and good feature was the interweaving vocal melodies in the verse, and also how the pre-chorus became contrastingly slower which a switch to acoustic guitar. The chorus was very dramatic with harmonised vocals and a heavy instrumentation; this sounded great together, especially the vocals which sounded really passionate and crisp. I also liked how the guitar soloed over the melody which sounded great, and had a good shape to it.

Listening to Sara’s work was such a pleasure; her songs are fantastic at combining different styles and genres of music into one amazing and original composition. If you want to hear blues, rock, and ballad music all rolled into one then you should definitely check out her work. - Tom

Bio

Sara Skinner is a pop rock singer songwriter. Her vocals are embraced as "aggressive, yet soft & eerie at times."

Sara was raised in a small Texas town & was introduced to piano at the early age of seven. At age ten Sara picked up the electric guitar, and began to play the acoustic guitar in high school. In 2009 she entered a national singer-songwriter contest online, "I've always written songs, for as long as I can remember. I just took an old song I had, rewrote it, and entered it in. I didn't expect anything." After being voted into the Top 10, Sara Skinner decided that she would pursue a career as an artist.

Influenced by an odd-to-some variety of artists & bands, (some of which she has sited as Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance, Katy Perry, Corey Taylor, P!nk & Johnny Cash) Sara took her time figuring out exactly what direction to take, eventually finding a home in a union of pop and rock. "I really like the energy of pop music and I really like the emotion and depth of rock." "I just like to write my thoughts, what I'm going through. I'm not trying to be one thing, dark, optimistic, sad or anything. Writing songs is just my way of communicating to other people, and sometimes it's just my way of talking myself through things."

After early graduation from high school, Sara made a move to Hollywood, CA. On weekdays Sara was co-writing and collaborating, for the first time, with Grammy winning, Hall of Fame producers & songwriters, while landing gigs at venues including The Viper Room, House of Blues & Roxy Theatre on weekends. On the nights Sara was not writing or playing at a venue, she performed on the streets of Hollywood Blvd and the Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade.

In February 2013, Z-Entertainment Records re-released a single from Sara's first EP. “Break,” the ballad single, landed on radio the following month. Sara continues to promote her radio single while writing and recording for an upcoming album.
