Bio

Sarita has a knack for engaging and entertaining children AND their parents (and their parent’s friends). Recently, playing in the pouring rain for a Halloween party at “Google” she was delighted to see so many kids dancing under umbrellas...or forgetting about their umbrellas all together and letting their face-paint drip down their delighted smiles. One of the most exciting developments in her career is how her songs begin to take on a life of their own. In the tradition of American folk music, Sarita has received reports of her songs being covered by musicians from Costa Rica to Canada and beyond. “One is the Sun” has been translated into French, Spanish and Croatian, and Sarita was thrilled to have recently been asked to publish the song in the folk music anthology “Songs for Earthlings”. Another of her original songs “If I Were a...” has become a standard song at Summer Camps around the world...from California, to Croatia, to Russia. She is excited that many people in the audiences of her shows seem to know the words to her original songs and loves to hear other people singing her music.

Sarita has spent the past 4 years teaching Movement, Music, and Drama to Kindergarten through Eighth Graders at a small private school in Mill Valley. She has developed an entire Performing Arts curriculum for young students based on her own original music, songwriting and creative play techniques. Sarita has written and directed 5 original large-scale musicals and cabaret shows with casts of over 50 kids ages 5-13. Her job as an educator has taught her about appealing to children of all ages.

Sarita is in the process of creating a music video series of her original songs with her husband, John Schroeder. Schroeder is an exceptionally versatile musician, adding bass, sax, marimba, flute, jaw harp and musical saw to their “Bubblejuice” album. He is also an accomplished filmmaker and is filming and editing all of their video clips. She is recording a series of albums of children’s music and has plans to create picture books out of several of her songs. She is excited to get more young voices on her albums and is thrilled that her own children love performing with her when appropriate to the venue.

Sarita continues to collaborate with bay area musicians and is a founding member of the bands “Kid Kaleidoscope” and “Octopretzel”. Most recently, she has performed at the Bay Area Discovery Museum, Hochmat Halev Temple in Berkeley, CA, and at several Google holiday parties. She feeds off of the smiles of happy children...
