Bio
This singer/songwriter moved from Adelaide to Perth at an early age spending her formative music years in a vibrant, experimental and evolving original music scene fronting bands Spank and One Horse Town. She has toured both nationally and in Europe with her previous acts.
The desire to play to new audiences and develop songwriting further was a high priority so in 2007 she moved to Melbourne and formed The Voodoo Economic. The band had a pop-infused blues flavour - initially starting out as a duo, then a three and a four piece, depending on which band members could make it to play the gig that night. They released 2 EP’s and an album and headlined their own national tour.
In her various incarnations she has supported the likes of The Cruel Sea, Abbe May, The Fumes, The Black Eyed Susans, The Angels, Little Birdy (national tour), Evermore (NZ), Morphine (USA) and Veruca Salt (USA).
Sascha’s constantly evolving style of songwriting can be attributed to her musical influences being the likes of Lucinda Williams, PJ Harvey, Shovels and Rope, Suzi Quatro, Isobel Campbel and Mark Lanegan, Johnette Napolitana and Marianne Faithful.
What has been written about Sascha Ion…..
“Sascha Ion’s voice was made for smoky pubs, stadiums and basically anywhere the $^ she wants to take it…….This girl has lived and still comes up shining like a diamond in all respects.” Drum Media
“ Sascha Ion is absolutely mesmerising throughout. She may not leap about the stage swinging the microphone around her head like a lasoo but when her shoulders hunch up and that black river of sound comes pouring out of her body there’s nothing you can do except gape in amazement. Wow…” Xpress Magazine
Sascha has currently recorded some new tunes in Adelaide at Mixmasters with Mick Wordley. This collection of tunes is a collaboration with her brother Sam and will be due for release in early 2015.
Meanwhile please enjoy recent
