"April 2005"

The first time percussionist Miguel Castro jammed with Alexander "Sasha" Lisnichuk, he assumed that the classical guitarist was Brazilian.
After all, Lisnichuk, who lives in Lawrenceville, was playing the seven-string guitar, a Brazilian original. And he was really playing it.
"He was mixing in all these Latin styles," said Castro, a native of the Dominican Republic. "I was extremely impressed."
But when the jam session ended, Lisnichik fessed up. He’s Ukrainian.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Castro said. “He’s a full-blooded Ukrainian.”

Bio

Brief Bio:

As a true master of the 7-string guitar, Brazilian Samba, and jazz; Sasha has been noted for providing his audiences’ with an astonishing and memorable performance. As a native of Kiev, Ukraine, Sasha learned ethnic music at an early age as well as studying Jazz, Classical, and Brazilian guitar throughout his life. He likes to describe his repertoire in culinary terms: “It’s a musical stew with Brazilian, Spanish, Cuban, and many other ingredients with a Ukranian chef.”

Extended Bio:

Sasha, a genuine master of the 7-string guitar, grew up in the tradition of Classical and Eastern European folk music. Sasha has added to his palette the colorful mix of Brazilian Samba and American Jazz to create a truly unique style. He likes to describe his repertoire in culinary terms: "It's a musical stew with Brazilian, Spanish, Cuban and many other ingredients with a Ukranian chef.”
After his arrival to the United States in the early 90’s, Sasha continued his musical journey. He had the pleasure of studying the Brazilian guitar under Dr. Marcos Cavalcante, one of the world's great experts of the instrument and its history. With the guidance of Dr. Cavalcante, Sasha was able to develop a style influenced by Samba and Flamenco, he then instinctively combined elements of his own Eastern European roots.
Through his latest 2006 CD release Blind Rain, Sasha portrays his inexhaustible ability to continuously excel in his craft. His previous CD’s Percussionata Project and Passing Through, also portray his well thought-out and emotional compositions that combine the traditional rhythms of Brazil, Spain, and Cuba.
Sasha's initial goal, while forming his group, was to create an acoustic ensemble that emphasizes the depth and flavor of Latin percussion with the guitar. "I wanted to uncover the beauty of these classical sounds," said Sasha. He has successfully accomplished this… and much more. With his swift fingers dancing through rhythmic and melodic passages on his nylon 7-string guitar, while the percussion section assists in the “exotic grove department”, the final result is the perfect blend of spices and sounds.

Sasha has played for a multitude of audiences throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East; however, his main motivation in composing and developing new material goes far beyond pleasing audiences, it is the voice of the soul.
