"Saskia – Chophouse, Friday 19th May 2006"

Considering this was their first paid gig, and about the third time they have played in public, Saskia did an awesome job at the chophouse Friday night.
Unruffled by the crappy turnout that night (which I suspect had something to do with the Ten Cent Lovers being the headline act), the 3-piece band easily managed an impressed hush from the crowd when they cranked out their first catchy tune, “What Can I Say”. The silence continued throughout their short, 6-song set. People dug it and it’s easy to see why. Their laid-back blend of acoustic folk rock somehow manages to be both original and (dare I say it) mainstream. Getting someone as rock-obsessed as me to like funky minimalist music is no mean feat, but I enjoyed every song. Their playing was tight even the bassist and drummer were good, and I don’t usually notice stuff like that.
Saskia is not only the name of the band, but also the name of the front woman and lead singer Saskia Obluda. They chose their name in a hurry only three weeks ago when they decided to enter the recent Uni band competition at the Rose N Crown. There, they not only kicked ass but made it through to the finals. Saskia (the girl) has wicked style and a killer voice, so if you’re a loser who goes out just to perve on chicks, go and see them next time they play. Saskia (the band) rocks, so if you’re a scrupulous young person, who only sees bands for the music, go and see them anyway. Local music needs you! Peace out/

Saskia Blu is a musical trio influenced by the likes of The Beautiful Girls, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson and KT Tunstall. The band formed 2 years ago with singer/songwriter Saskia perfoming solo acoustic before looking to add a new feel to her music, with the introdcution of brothers Dave and Aiden on drums and bass respectively, which has added extra excitement to the already catchy songs. The band perform regular gigs at local venues between the Gold Coast and Brisbane.Their diverse range covers light-hearted tunes, melancholy melodies and everything in between. Passionate supporters of the local music scene, Saskia Blu's unique blend of acoustic folk rock is not to be missed.
