Formed in 2009 shortly after Dan Landry (guitar/vocals) met bassist Steve Smith through an online ad looking for some "groovy cats" to jam with. It didn't take long for Steve to notice Dan's ad that listed Frank Zappa as one of his main influences. With a mutual admiration for Zappa's music, the two got together for a jam and jammed they did. Each player, well versed and skilled in their instrument, perfectly complementing the other. Music was played, magic was made, they needed a drummer!

Over the next few months, Steve and Dan would write several songs together while learning some select Zappa tunes. They spent some time with a few drummers before deciding to court local percussion guru Rob Straughan, who was already well known in the scene and who was also a Zappa fan. With Rob now in the fold they began rehearsing their original material as well as taking on select covers they thought would be fun to include in their live show.

Which brings us to their live show, or as they describe it, "An excursion into the absurd" including a "Spin the Wheel of Satan" game where some audience members get a chance to win cool swag like a pair of cheap dress socks or a cheese sandwich. But don't let their tomfoolery fool you, these guys are pure performance. Songs like "Popcan" and "Sarge" and serving up numbers like Zappa's "Zombie Woof" tells you that this band isn't afraid to go where few have gone before and why should they be? After all, that's what they do and they do it well.

Satan's Sugar Band is currently in the studio with plans to release a full length CD before 2012 and can be seen performing live in and around the Sudbury area.
