Satori

Formed in March 2004, Satori have gone through many changes. Starting out as a covers band for a charity tour of the Midlands, they soon went on to write their own material. The initial line up was Steve Withe (vocals), Rob Mills (lead guitar), Dave Wing (rhythm guitar), Nick Brown (bass), Tim Polidori (keyboard) and Dean Lomas (drums). During this time the band played many gigs in and around the Midlands area, including playing the main stage at The Carling Academy as part of the Emergenza Battle of the Bands Regional Final. An EP was released (Drowning) which at the time was piano/guitar based indie-rock. In 2006 Steve Withe left the band to our pursue his solo music interests and drummer, Dean made the jump to vocals. The search for a new drummer then commenced and finally the band settled on stickman, Carl Garfield who had already played with them once before as a temporary stand in for Dean. With this line up more gigs were played, including a showcase gig for Sony at The Purple Turtle in Camden, London. Two further EPs were recorded (Tomahawk Bank Holiday) and The Guilt of the Fallen). The next change came in late 2008 when keyboard player, Tim Polidori parted company with the band. With this departure the initial thought was to get a replacement so that the band could continue with their indie-rock sound; however, as the remaining members all grew up listening to metal and rock the decision was made to keep the line up as a 5 piece. With this in mind the 5 remaining members (Lomas, Mills, Wing, Brown and Garfield) began to put together a new guitar based metal/rock sound and, thanks to Mills' metallica influenced guitar style, they started to create the sound that now best suited them. At the tail end of 2008 the first song that showed their new sound was recorded (Put The Gun Down, Drop The Knife). Following this 3 more new songs were completed and have been recorded and mastered. The band's first gig with their new sound was played at The Sound Bar, Birmingham on 14th November 2009 and this was met with a great response. Following this gig the band played The Old Wharf in Digbeth, Birmingham on 23rd December 2009 as headlining band with support from Burnside. This gig went down a storm and now the band are in the process of writing new material and arranging for the release of a 4-track EP. 2010 looks set to bring much for Satori.
