Bio

Quick, look up: which is the most interesting planet? Out of the nine which orbit our sun (sorry, anti-Plutoists), you might find your eye gravitating toward the enormous, desert colored Saturn. Not just because even at 800 million miles from Earth, Saturn is still regularly visible with the naked eye -- the most distant planet with that quality. Not just because of its striking system of rings, which resemble a vinyl record and have been called the "grandest in all the solar system". Not just because of its sixty-two moons, the largest of which is so similar to Earth it may someday turn out to inhabit life on its surface. Saturn, the ringed sphere, is an elemental symbol of the beauty and majesty that exists beyond the terrestrial world.

Of course, Earth has its beauty and majesty too. The three members of Saturn Cowboys (Danny, Andrew, and Rich), all transplanted South Floridians, found enough of it in and out of their new home state of Colorado that they were inspired to start a band with the goal of collecting all the places and experiences they've found into songs -- songs which join together mountains and thunderstorms, waves and deserts, ice and space, and Saturn's rings into a sweeping sightseeing journey, retold through music.

Saturn Cowboys formed in Denver in late 2010 and almost immediately found themselves with an overflow of songs to prepare for the stage and studio. Combining classic and psychedelic rock with alternative country, the Cowboys' music presents itself as an array of transitions and styles, with influences ranging from Wilco and Lucero, to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam, to Pink Floyd and Steely Dan. The unifying presence is lead vocalist Danny's resonant baritone voice and characteristic, precise Telecaster-work. Combined with the rock solid drums and often jazz-colored basslines of the rhythm section, the result is an always cohesive sound that leaves a visual imprint on the listener.

Since their formation, the Cowboys have shared the stage with touring and local bands at several of Denver's more esteemed clubs, such as Hi-Dive, Larimer Lounge, Herman's Hideaway and Mercury Cafe. On stage, the band confidently delivers all of the atmosphere and depth of their songs while, even in a crowded, sweaty room, maintaining the feeling of hanging out at your favorite haunt with some buddies, sipping on whiskey.

Saturn Cowboys are currently finishing up recording their debut album at their studio, the Ghosthouse, in Denver. It is slated for release in summer of 2011.

See you at the space rodeo...giddy up!
