Bio

Raised in a home where opera, calypso, folk and jazz were given equal time on the hi-fi, Nina Gordon began singing & playing guitar at an early age. She performed solo in coffeehouses and clubs during the 1970s, followed by a brief stint in spandex and sequins as the frontwoman for the Top 40 cover band Nightbeat in the 1980's. In 1991, Nina followed her country dreams and formed Savannah Sky with her husband Gary Lee; the band is named for their two children, Savannah and Sky. During the 1990s, the band performed in major venues such as Lincoln Center Midsummer Night's Swing, South Street Seaport, and the Hunter Mountain Country Music Festival, opening for country greats such as Little Jimmy Dickens, Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, Trisha Yearwood, and many more.

Originally conceived as a dance band, covering contemporary country hits as well as classics by Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Mary-Chapin Carpenter and more, the band went through some changes when Gary Lee retired from the band in 2003. Nina revamped the lineup and joined forces with some of New York's hottest country players to create the tight-knit ensemble that is now Savannah Sky, focusing on traditional country, Western swing and rockabilly music.

Nina is equally at home crooning a tender ballad or rocking out on a raucous blues song, and she keeps a steady rhythm on her trusty Songbird guitar. Her warm and engaging voice ranges from a powerful, smoky contralto to a down-home yodel, and her abundant energy and humor keep the show sizzling.

Bruce Kirshner is a multi-faceted performer. Equally fluent on electric guitar and fiddle, he's also a dynamic vocalist with a commanding stage presence. From a rockin' Cajun tune to an Elvis Presley love song, Bruce puts a soulful spin on it and makes it his own.

Skip Krevens is a virtuoso on both pedal steel and electric guitar, and is one of NY's most sought-after session musicians. When he's not playing with Savannah Sky, he may be found backing up a national recording artist at the Rodeo Bar or playing in the pit band of a Broadway show in NYC. Skip likes to sing songs about trucks, cars, Texas, farm animals, and the evils of tobacco.

Dave Sonneborn is not only a great bass player (upright AND electric), he's also a true country gentleman, a walking encyclopedia of country music and a fine singer who covers the best of Bob Wills, Merle Haggard and a host of other country greats.

Billy Lang is a renaissance man of the 21st century: a drummer who sings high tenor and who can take a solo on the glockenspiel in a country song, a prize-winning vegetable gardener and a darned good fisherman.

Bruce, Skip, Dave and Billy have been playing music together in various country bands since the early 1970s, and the relationship between them is evident when Savannah Sky takes the stage. Adding the "woman's touch" with Nina's unforgettable voice and vivacious stage presence for the past seven years has resulted in a unique and exciting show, combining talent, high energy, sensuality, and fun for all!
