Savas OZKOK
He was born in 30 june 1980 in Gaziantep , in the south east of Turkey. Savas OZKOK starts to the music by his father who is a school teacher and also a qanun player and amateur composer.instituteur Since 8 years old he receives a full education of turkish clasical music as practising his instrument and studying theoric science of makam and usul.
His sister and brother following also this way respectively selected the kemenche and violoncel. Although his very young age, Savas plays already with three groups and hes able to perform by rote Âyin-i Serif ( the longest turkish clasical and mistic music forms).
When hes 18 he tries to introduce unknown pieces of turkish traditional repertory and he starts being interested in composers from beganing of XX century who come from non -muslim minorities. Thats how he works on discovering Yorgo BACANOS, greek descent who is the famous master of oud known for his innovative technic and also the forgotton scores of Aleko Bacanos, and of many other great artistes such as Astik Aga, Isak Varon ou Artaki Candan.
At the end of his secondary studies, he decides to undertake graduate studies in National Conservatory of Technical University of Istanbul where he is trained by the teachers unanimousy known as reference of current turkish clasical music :Nevzat Sümer, Erol Deran, Niyazi Sayin, Nevzad Atlig...
After having this bachalor degree he pursued a masters study in Halic University, again in Istanbul.
During all these years, he participate to many concerts in Turkey and in abroad within several groups such as The Whirling Derviches of Konya or New Istanbul Oriental Ensemble directed by Burhan Öçal. He also accompanies The Turkish Classical Music Chorus of Bursa.
