Valerie Shearman (2004)

"Lets say it with Jazz"

Vivacious singer and songwriter Valerie Shearman is a great singer because she is able to draw on her personal experiences, bring them to her music, and make you feel like `you're there'!

Valerie grew up surrounded by guitars & pianos, and listening to a wealth of fabulous 60's & 70's music including Rock `n' Roll, Jazz, Motown, and Country. Although she has performed in bands of many types over the years, jazz has always been her forte. Her late husband, Buzz Shearman - lead vocalist for the rock group MOXY - always encouraged her to pursue her music. His spirit keeps her moving ahead to this day.

Years ago, when she was a `mere folk singer, performing Gordon Lightfoot and Karen Carpenter songs for the Oral Arts Festival of Ontario', she was approached by a peer who said she “should be singing Jazz - I think it fits your voice". Well, that's what she did, and her debut jazz album is to be released in early 2005. She hooked up with Toronto pianist Bob Erlendson, who has played with such greats as Lenny Breau and Shirley Eikhart, and collaborated with song-writer Arthur Tuck and Gregory Martel. The music just fell together like a breathe of fresh air! “You know when it's right.”, she says. “It's a feeling you get - you just know it when it happens to you.” Her working pals have been waiting a long time for this CD. She just kept telling them she was working on it. Now it's just about here.

In addition, Valerie has performed for film and radio. In 1994, she teamed up with actor Jeff Wincott (from the hit TV series “NIGHT HEAT”) when he was in town shooting the movie "The Donor". They used her music in the movie. From the late 80's to the present, Valerie has continued to work in the music field for such companies as A&M Records, AM640, Q107 FM and Jazz FM91.
