Sayma, a journey into trip-hop, jazz & improvisation

Sayma is a duo based in Belgium Brussels, they are performing together since 2002.They met in london in 2000 & continued to develop their own music.
Sanja Maas (jazz vocalist, composer, songwriter, producer, arranger and vocal coach) graduated at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2000 and Max Vande Merghel (composer, musician, producer, mixer and arranger) graduated at the Gateway School of music in London and he currently develops his own studio called Studio N.
They’ve experienced their project within different set -ups.
Their first album ‘Capricorn’ was released independantly in 2003 and had positive reactions in the Belgian press (see below).
The album is currently released by the Swiss internet label Colour World Music & available on Itunes, Amazon, Fnac.fr and more.
Their second album ‘Ignite’ is soon to be released with themes about justice, relations, philosophy, love & social opinions.
They where interviewed in November in the program Strictly Niceness on Fm Brussel, single ‘Wonder body’

‘Knack Focus’ the Flemish magazine compared them to be the Belgian ‘Lamb’(British trip-hop band).
‘La Capital’ described them as ‘unclassifiable’ and synonym of originality.

They’ve been performing in Belgium (Grand Place, Gaume Jazz Festival, Belga Queen, Gentse Feesten, Athanor Studio, Ancienne Belgique after Kraftwerk & some prisons).
Abroad they’ve performed in Paris (Opus Café) and the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland).

They’ve worked with artists like Erwin Vann (Kenny Wheeler, Reggie Washington), Maxime Lenssens (Axelle Red, Chris Whitley) Otti Van Der Werf (Octurn, Greetings from Mercury)
Renaud Van Hooland (Manou Gallo, Vincent Venet), Philippe Joosens,
Renoar Hadri (bassplayer & producer)
