"SAYS covers Portishead"

An album cut from Portishead’s 1994 debut Dummy, “Wandering Star” thuds along ominously while Beth Gibbon’s breathy vocals shimmer overtop. Well, not here. Seattle trio SAYS rocks a little harder, nodding at their grunge heritage while aiming for Muse-style electronic grandeur. - Coverme.com

"SAYS "Only X" (single) reviewed by Eric Grandy"

Says, "Only X" (out now, self-released, saysmusic.bandcamp.com): Sedate yet uneasy mood rock whose spaciousness, avant-jazzy and electronic touches, and general melancholy owe a great deal to Radiohead. EG - Seattle Weekly's Reverb Monthly

"They're playing with SAYS... and you shouldn't miss it. Period."

There's a whole lot of us who will be migrating south for Friday night's Pickwick show at the Doug Fir, but if you're in town this weekend, there's plenty going on that's worth going out for: namely, Lovesick Empire's opening spot at the Highline in Capitol Hill on Friday night. They're playing with SAYS and Black Nite Crash, and you shouldn't miss it. Period.

If you haven't seen or heard Lovesick Empire yet, you are truly missing out. Their self-titled EP tied for first place in 2010's best-ofs, and my first round of listens earlier that year yielded quite the enthusiastic word-salad: - Three Imaginary Girls

"“Disbelieving (2010) definitely doesn't lack direction."

“Disbelieving (2010) definitely doesn't lack direction. The production on this EP is very well balanced, which is difficult when so many audio effects are in play. With guitar and vocal reverbs, delays, distortions, and various ambient, harmonic, and melodic synthesizer parts, it is challenging to achieve the "right" mix. ”

""Disbelieving" from SAYS gives off the curious feeling that evil robots may be steering this album"

What's so good?

In the spirit of full disclosure, I’m a fan of SAYS first, a friend second. Although their first EP is just making its way into the world, they’ve already shared a bill with keyboardist Ikey Owens of the Mars Volta – it should be no surprise that SAYS is a bit dark. There’s a sinister quality to Disbelieving that treads heavily through shoegaze woods or maybe The City of Lost Children. - Indieshuffle.com
