"Scarlet Canary CD Review"

“Greeley's Scarlet Canary strike hard with their new EP 'Distorted Reality.' Hannah Haze's melodic vocal lines flow well on top of a mainstream metal/rock sound. The songs are somewhat angry although Haze's voice does not come across as hostile. The songs also have an emotional feel to them, highlighted by dual guitar work that personifies the band's hard rock sound. 'Mark of the Beast' stood out to me as the most radio-friendly and enjoyable track on the disk. The song is fast, the drums give it a bit of a punk rock feel, with solid guitar work and a bit of screaming from Haze. The record has a sound that can appeal to rock fans of many different tastes; their music would fit well on modern rock or heavy rock radio.”

Back in October 2011, I reviewed an album by this Colorado based band and I admit I was impressed. Now a four track EP has come my way, and I am as equally impressed by what is on offer here. Fronted by Hannah Haze, this band sure hit the spot with this EP. Hard Rock that kicks ass, but with a good dose of melody to boot. 'Distorted Reality' is the curtain raiser and this track is becoming a fave of mine. 'Mark of The Beast' roars out of the speakers like the beast it is - totally awesome. 'Breathe' with it's awesome chorus maintains the tempo while closer 'Nightmare' closes the curtain on this little opus. The band list their influences as Skillet, Halestorm, 3 Days Grace, In this Moment and Bullet for my Valentine, and these bands should give a fair indication as to the path they are taking. Their Facebook is here. Great stuff... 8.5/10

"Small But Mighty"

“In the many subcategories metal inspires, this band could fit comfortably in the hard rock genre or stuff your here on KBPI. Hard rock with a metal edge. Lots of catchy tunes, with driving guitars, aggressive drums and some screaming, though they come by their influences rightly as the sound a lot like Halestorm and In This Moment.”

"Scarlet Canary Review"

“They are a top notch rock band PERIOD! They use metal style drumming and guitars and lay over some really good rock vocals and blend it all and they just suck you in. The song that tops this EP is “Metrognome”. It’s a very original sounding track and it’s just awesome!! It has some really insane melodies and metal riffs and its random gang shout-outs alongside Hannah’s amazing voice. I do see a bright future for this band as a whole and am very excited to see what else they bring to the table. All I have to say is move over Halestorm, you have some competition!”

"Scarlet Canary- Arise"

With vocals touching the fringe of exotica, hard rockers Scarlet Canary and front lady Hannah Maddox display the progress they’ve made through frequent touring with their new album Arise. The six songs couple Maddox’ vocals with heavy driving guitar licks to give the band a sound that verges on metal but never fully strays from alternative rock- a trait that suits that band well, giving them appeal across the wide spectrum of rock music.

Lyrically, the songs are consistently aggressive- Maddox and the crew wear their hearts on their sleeve, leaving their songs dripping with emotion.

"Scarlet Canary isn't your ordinary little bird..."

Scarlet Canary is a highly energetic rock band based out of Denver, Colorado. Metal Recon was fortunate enough to catch Scarlet Canary at the Black Sheep in Colorado Springs, Colorado a few weeks ago and found this band to be extremely fun and entertaining. Honestly, I never thought I would dance to songs that Scarlet Canary covers, including Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off" as seen here in this video. If that's not impressive enough, Scarlet Canary has played with national acts, such as Skillet and Saliva, while touring with Stitched Up Heart and is led by the talented young Hannah Maddox who lists In This Moment and Halestorm among her top influences. For more information about Scarlet Canary check out their website here: or check out or Interrogation with Hannah, Allen, Marcus, and Marcos coming soon on - Metal Recon

Still working on that hot first release.

With their most recent release of their album ‘Arise’ the band has been doing just that, rising through the ranks of the regional music scene. Early tours in the Midwest with Stitched Up Heart and City of the Weak generated the momentum that sparked a number of US Headlining tours going as far west as California and as far east Pennsylvania. 2016’s Tour Schedule consisted of 92 shows across 21 states, 46 cities, 47,906 Miles and 65 days’ worth of drive time. This tour history has earned the band performances with Skillet, Saliva, Gemini Syndrome, Lita Ford, and many more.

The band’s talent and work ethic over the last two years on the road has earned sponsorships from Westone in Ear Systems and Spector Bass. Always on time for load in and ready to throw down the band is fronted by the powerful vocals of Hannah Maddox which takes female fronted rock right up to the edge of metal. Deep driving toms and down-tuned guitars with riffs inspired by pop punk and metal core back Hannah’s hard rock driven vocals where it is not uncommon for her to scream at a climatic bridge.

“Arise” was produced by Martin Schroeder of No Heart Studios and had a peak chart position in the top 50 on Radio Contraband’s ‘Under the Radar’ charts in 2016. You can hear Scarlet Canary’s music played on FM Stations from Idaho to Wisconsin. Scarlet Canary’s music can also be found on Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music, and all other major online retailers.

“The band members in Scarlet Canary strive to put every ounce of passion and energy they can muster into the group’s live performances.” –Sioux City Journal

This passion and work ethic continues into 2017 with the much anticipated release of the band’s fourth EP “Perspective.” Tour dates coming soon.
