Go to Tijuana Flats in Wesley Chapel on a Wednesday night, or the Tijuana flats in Trinity on a Thursday night, and you'll see her - and hear her. She's been down here for 21/2 decades after moving from New Hampshire, and she and her full-bodied voice front the Pasco-based band called Scarlett Moon, with her husband, David, on the guitar, and friend Jeff Dilly on the bass. Here's Sharon Epperson:
We just did the VIP grand opening at the Tijuana Flats in Trinity. It was crazy. So many friggin' people. It was nuts. We're waiting for the next grand opening.
The very first time I was on stage was seventh grade and it was for a talent show. I did What I Did for Love from A Chorus Line. I was scared to death. Scared. To. Death. You never know if people are going to throw s--- at you.
I didn't get into chorus in the seventh grade. I wouldn't project because I was too scared.
Just repetition, I think.
How do you know if you're good at what you do unless people see you and hear you?
If people like you, it just kind of snowballs, right?
I'm from Manchester, N.H., and I was 18 when I moved down here. I was bored so I moved down with an ex-boyfriend. I wanted to do music. Where are you going to do that up there? Unless it's Boston, or New York, which was a little scary at the time. At 18?
The first night I saw him playing on stage, I knew. I don't know how. It's weird. Almost like you knew the person already. And I said: That's it, I'm done, and where the hell have you been all this time?
It's not religion. It's spirituality. That's very different. Spirituality comes from within. I'm not into the whole fanaticism thing.
Smoking is a very, very bad habit. I wish I could quit. But I wish it wouldn't be so damn hard. You know what I mean?
The reason you start is because it's cool. Then you're screwed.
Probably about eight months ago, I quit for four days, and my husband said, "I wish you'd have a cigarette, because you're such a b---- right now." And I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't stand myself.
As I'm getting dressed, it's a total transition from who I am during the day. The minute I'm in the shower I'm starting to think about what I'm going to wear that night.
People hear with their eyes as well.
When you're the oldest girl in the family you're always trying to make people happy.
Been there, done that, won't do it again.
Yes I'm a little neurotic. It's a female thing. Well, it's either a female thing, or a Gemini thing, or maybe it's just me.
Who knows what you could've done?
Have some more beer, some more sangria and everything will be fine.
All right. I've got to get back to work.
