Formed in 2011 by guitarist/vocalist Todd Deason and drummer/vocalist Billy Carden, Scar of the Tropics was complete with the addition of bassist Morgan Beers and singer/songwriter Melinda Elena in mid-2012.

Singer Melinda Elena’s soulful, powerful vocals, combined with her beauty and energetic stage presence will hold your eye and your ear. She has been performing professionally since 2009, but singing most all of her life. Melinda has performed most all genres of music from Rock to Country to Jazz to Pop to R&B. Her talent even landed her onstage singing “Red Solo Cup” with Toby Keith.

Guitarist/vocalist Todd Deason has a wide range of experience in the music business. Playing guitar for 22 years, he has performed with various bands, has recorded three albums, was signed and toured with alternative/rock/metal band, Shirt, who won the Association for Independent Musicians’ award for Best Independent Release of 2002 in the Extreme Rock category.

Drummer/vocalist Billy Carden comes from a musical family and is actually a self-taught musician. His mother is an accomplished organ and saxophone player and his grandmother was a singer. He has been playing drums since the age of 15. Billy also writes, plays guitar and has been known to pick up the bass from time to time as well.

Bassist Morgan Beers has been playing electric bass since the age of 12 and holds an A.A.S. degree in Music performance featuring Music Theory and various genres including Jazz. He also plays upright bass, piano and trombone. Morgan was previously a founding member of The Real Monsters, an original band who performed for The Next Big Thing Tour.

Scar has performed at various nightclubs and venues in the South Florida area, always providing high energy entertainment to the masses. The band pulls from each of its individual member’s musical influences to create songs that have their own unique signature. That variety provides their audience with a plethora of musical gems to choose from. From the mellow, jazzy "Movin’ On," to the punk/pop "Drifting," to the all out rocking "You," and everything in between, listeners are sure to find their new favorite tune.

The band is currently in the studio working on new material and gearing up for a summer/fall tour while still performing live shows as often as their schedule will allow.
