Bio
With 15 years of playing experience, Bradford Hastings, has musically walked this country with a guitar in hand. From humble beginnings in Pittsburgh, PA,to proliferation in Austin, TX, and on to Los Angeles for his present incarnation as Schaffer's Pony. "I write about a lot of painful things, whether they are in my life or others." His music, sometimes haunting, sometimes joyful, but always honest, breathes in its simplicity. "I don't like to over do it too much. I had a music teacher that told me, 'simplicity shows the master,' and I have always tried to honor that."
After moving to Austin, Bradford played in many different bands. Mr. Pink and the Fuzzy Wigglies being the most fun. With a parody song of the Butthole Surfers' "Pepper" Mr. Pink became enemy number one of Gibby and the boys. The song was played all over the country including, K-Rock in New York. They didn't stop there and made an album called "Listening in Tongues." "This stuff, by no means, is for the faint at heart." He says of the Pink stuff. "I mean there are songs about beer, a family vacation in Mississippi, and a girl who has a bad run in with a hot dog. It isn't for everyone." But there was always a serious side to Bradford and he was always writing songs for a solo tour.
After moving to Los Angeles, Bradford dove in to several bands, including even pete, and his own solo show. "I really feel that the time has aged these songs well. Like a fine wine." he says laughing.
At present, Schaffer's Pony is out on tour through the south. Check him out in CA, AZ, NM, TX, LA, GA, and FL. See the Calendar for more info.
