Bio
School For Robots is an alternative rock collective from
Boston led by Curtis Killian on guitar and vocals, with
Derek van Wormer on bass, Frank Hegyi on drums, and
frequent guest appearances by esteemed local artists.
The expanding repertoire covers an eclectic array of
genre-spanning material, from hard rock to funk, alt-country
to novelty-pop. Curtis is a self-avowed Zappa fanatic and his song-writing is strongly inspired by '60s rock, '90s grunge, and contemporary experimental music.
What started out as a forced dance ritual to the eponymous
1968 children’s song by Bruce Haack quickly
became a fitting moniker for a series of DIY recordings
Curtis began crafting in 2004. Through obsessive overdubbing and crude sonic experimentation, he garnered
enough interest from like-minded individuals to form a band, mutating over the years with a lively and revolving cast of tight, focused musicians.
Meanwhile, songs gestated and grew over the years
into the demented angular protrubrances heard today.
The recordings are still born out of a raw DIY approach
toward sonic expansion, and released in a fury via the
Song-A-Week page at www.schoolforrobots.com.
