Bio
Schuyler Grant, (born January 16, 1990) is an American songwriter and performer based out of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Schuyler was introduced to the creative world early in his youth by his father, multi-media artist William Hemmerdinger (www.williamhemmerdinger.com), accompanying him to exhibition openings and private collection appraisals in the Los Angeles area. Grant’s music, a Blues-driven Americana, is greatly influenced by his years in New Orleans and Manhattan’s West Village.
Working with Grammy-nominated producer Jon Evans (Tori Amos, Sarah Mclaughlin), Schuyler just released his first studio album, “Moving On.” Written in April of 2014 in American icon and actor James Dean’s former Manhattan apartment, the four song LP documents the progression of a difficult breakup. Opening with the gentle, americana-inspired ballad "Honey Bee”, the listener experiences the transition from anger (“A Shade of Blue”) to defeat (“Under the Summer Sun”) before culminating their emotional journey with acceptance and self-determination (“Moving On”). The album was released in February of 2016 and is available at www.schuylergrantmusic.bandcamp.com.
Schuyler is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, LA (class of ’12) where he spent four years absorbing the city and its culture. “A show at Preservation Hall is the best $12 you could ever spend,” he says of the French Quarter’s storied dixie-jazz joint. Upon graduating, Schuyler moved to Manhattan’s West Village, cutting his teeth as a songwriter in many of the same clubs where his idols (Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Ray Charles, and Ritchie Havens) did the same.
When not gigging in some of Manhattan, Chicago, and Boston’s most illustrious clubs, Schuyler can be found on the waters of Nantucket Sound, tending the sheets of private sailboat charters and playing intimate shows for the Kennedy family and friends (including Rufus Wainwright, Lyle Lovett, Melissa Etheridge, and Taylor Swift).
