"Poetic Memory"

Comprised of brothers Aaron and Allen de la Rosa on guitars, Antonio Bravo on drums, and Jacob Miranda on bass, the talented troupe excels at both improv and composition, layering catchy fretwork over danceable bass lines and percussion. The band applies those sonic layers only to tear them down, then rebuild them in unexpected and refreshing ways. Because of this, Science Fiction’s live shows are captivating events that always leave you wanting more. - Owl & Bear

Bio

Science Fiction is comprised of Jacob Miranda (Bass), Antonio Bravo (drums) and brothers Allen (guitar) and Aaron de la Rosa (guitar). The outfit began as a trio relocating to San Diego from their small hometown of Santa Maria, CA to pursue music in the summer of 2007. The trio went through a series of line-ups experimenting with various horns, keys, additional percussion through the course of the years, but always coming back to their original sound. As line-ups changed, the core trio continued to push forward, developing their skills to become steadily active in the thriving San Diego music scene. Eventually, Science Fiction was asked to open up for artists such as D.J. Artistic, Gary Wilson of Stones Throw Records and even music geniuses Terry Bozzio, Alan Holdsworth, and Tony Levin with-in their first couple of years in the San Diego area.
After countless shows and three years of playing as Science Fiction, the band was hesitant to experiment with additional layers to the unique sound they had sought to develop. The trio took a chance and incorporated Allen’s older brother, Aaron De la Rosa into the line-up. No stranger to the band, Aaron quickly felt right at home. The chemistry within the group took on an exciting transformation leading to several new songs within a short amount of time. Discussions arose to procure Aaron as a permanent member of Science Fiction; shortly after completing his music degree in San Jose, Aaron made the decision to leave his job in Bakersfield and headed to San Diego.
Fast forward to 2010 and Science Fiction is full steam ahead. In the Winter of 2010, the group completed their first EP at O’Rourke Studios in Northridge,CA. Science Fiction has new material on deck to promote the release of the upcoming album in the months that follow. With a progressively growing repertoire of original material and cover songs with a Sci-fi twist–evidence of their funk/jazz and Indie Rock influences are palpable at EVERY show. The energy and passion from the stage with these four musicians is explicit with a distinctive edge to their music. Not only is their onstage chemistry clear, but it continues to transcend off the stage– they believe a key to maintaining their jam band roots. “We would still be kickin’ it even if we weren’t jamming.”
It all began in Allen’s garage, while the guys were still in their teens. “I’m fortunate to play in a band with my best friends” says Antonio. With ¾ of the band barely in their mid 20’s, they have but just begun the journey ahead as a steady touring band. Kicking-off 2011 with the right foot forward, Science Fiction will be coming to a town near you embarking on a west coast tour in the Spring. The guys are prepared for the rocky, but ever hopeful journey of life on the road– so stay tuned for tour updates and upcoming shows near you! – P.S Tell a friend!
