"Bandwidth: Scissors For Lefty"

This is one sinister band. Long before this San Francisco indie group signed with Rough Trade Records and cut its teeth touring the world, at least two left-handed members first had to survive grade school learning how to make the right-handed scissors work in the wrong hand. "All five of us pretty much fit that non-cookie-cutter vibe," says guitarist and singer Bryan Garza. "We are a left-of-center bunch in all aspects of thinking, so we found the name quite fitting, and it stuck." Scissors for Lefty is also a family affair. Brothers Bryan and Steve Garza grew up in San Jose, and Robby Garza, their uncle, who is just a few years older ("don't ask") lived just up the freeway in San Bruno. Brothers James and Peter Krimmel joined the band after meeting one of the Garza guys in college. The group grew out of countless coffee shop conversations that involved "painful musical rants." They were into Grandaddy and Beck, but somehow got dubbed as "dance rock," which is fine with them. "More than anything, we are a band of brothers and friends," says Bryan. "We never started the band thinking we were going to be huge. We just wanted to have fun and grow together. We love interacting with fans from all over and sharing our thoughts and experiences in a lighthearted way. Musicians tend to take themselves too seriously and that is the last thing that Scissors for Lefty is about." Put your left hands together when they return for a homecoming gig at the Great American Music Hall on Sunday. P.S.: Sunday's gig will also be the farewell show for past Bandwidth stars the Ebb & Flow. Demand encores and try to talk them out of it.

Bio

Scissors For Lefty is a San Francisco Band with a sophisticated pop style combining elements of Indie, Yesteryear, & Dirty Glam. They are about as playful as an arty pop band can get: melodies in between melodies, dance-rock guitar, glittery keyboard, disco bass, galloping propulsion from a 6 foot 10 drummer, all fronted by heavy-breathing tales of poignant relationships and counter-culture glow. Cute, sexy, and a little terrifying.

Scissors For Lefty has played all over the United States and the United Kingdom, including tours with the following bands: Arctic Monkeys, Dirty Pretty Things, Erasure, Smashing Pumpkins, Metric, Panic at The Disco, Blonde Redhead, The French Kicks, Locksley, The Matches, The Fiery Furnaces, Semi Precious Weapons, Kaiser Chiefs, Rykarda Parasol, Elephone, Black Heart Procession, Suffrajette, The Pigeon Detectives, Paolo Nutini, Ben Kweller, Juliette & The Licks, Grandaddy, The Bravery, The Bloody Heads, White Lies, Mr. Loveless, and more...

Their anticipated 3rd album Bangs & Lashes was released In Nov 2014.  Get it now on iTunes:
