SCISSORTOOTH is an energetic machine made of potent metal and fueled by concentrated rock, lightning charged riffs, lyrical exploration, intense instrumental skill and an infectious live show. This Vancouver band is one to watch and listen for in 2006.
Songwriters Derek and Shawn have a musical association that dates back to 1997 when they met in Grande Prairie, AB. They formed a band called MANTRA which opened for such established acts as GREAT WHITE, QUIET RIOT, and THE SMALLS.
In july 2003 they decided to move to Vancouver to stretch out to a larger audience and meet other musicians on the same skill level as themselves.
Upon their arrival in Vancouver in September 2003, Derek and Shawn posted an ad in the Georgia Straight which ended with the words "don't be a pussy" at the bottom. Jay and Ryan answered the ad shortly after.
Jay, a native of Halifax NS, moved to Vancouver in '97. His band in '93, ENTER REALITY, had played venues from Halifax to Montreal and attracted label interest. Upon the breakup of the band, Jay decided to move to the West Coast to pursue his musical ambitions. He found what he was looking for in Derek and Shawn's original music.
Ryan, a central Albertan, had played in metal bands like SOBER?, BLACK SUNSHINE and GUNT. He also became interested in the musical opportunities on the West Coast and had relocated there in February 2003.
The musical chemistry was immediately evident the first time they played together. SCISSORTOOTH was launched.
Over the next year and a half SCISSORTOOTH played many local venues and developed a dedicated and enthusiastic fan base. During this time they wrote, recorded and self-released their first album which can be heard and purchased at the official SCISSORTOOTH webpage (http://www.scissortooth.com). Drum tracks were recorded at RENAGADE STUDIOS; the rest of the tracks were recorded separately in the rehearsal room by Shawn. The band is now working on material for their second CD.
SCISSORTOOTH is a heavy and hardworking young band who will accept no less than success.
