Scony Mack

Scony Mack was founded in 2010 by a group of long time friends and experienced musicians. This Chicago-based act is centered around singer/songwriter Maxwell Atkins, former member of area bands Project Boat, Max and Tim, and Anchors, Balloons. Joining him on this endeavor is fellow Project Boat guitarist Tim Collins, bassist Drew Koch, and percussionist/songwriter Patrick Tuffano. Other groups on Scony Mack’s musical resume include Nine Months Till Dinner (technical death metal), The Atom Wests (garage-rock, featuring members of Aktar Aktar), Fur (psychedelic rock), and Peter Jackson Satisfaction (jam/experimental).
Together these experiences have created a unique blend of the folky sway of singer/songwriter Maxwell Atkins' with the fretboard mastery of guitarist Tim Collins, a sound that both boils the blood and tears at the heart. The addition of Drew Koch on bass has expanded their aural pallet and added soul to the bittersweet sound of Atkins' embattled lyrical stylings. Drawing influence from acts ranging from Bright Eyes to At The Drive In to The Grateful Dead, Scony Mack brings something new to the table in Chicago...not merely piggybacking on the style of their respective backgrounds.
With roots to an extensive collection of area bands, the members have performed at Chicago music staples such as the Subterranean, Beat Kichen, Schubas, and both Reggie’s Rock Club and Music Joint as well as many north-side bars. They have also gained extensive recognition through performances DIY house shows, gaining the attention underground promoters YRC Music and Samsara Recordings.
Scony Mack expect to utilize this rich history within the Chicago music scene to not only impress fans of former projects but to expand their audience through a live show that is both catchy and thought provoking. Working with record company/management Samsara Recordings as well as nationally connected booking/promotions outfit Marquee Lights, Scony Mack has both the experience and the tools to be the next big thing in Chicago music.
