Bio

Growing up with 3 siblings, Scott was always considered "the quiet one" until his brother needed a keyboardist for his rock band and pursuaded him to join when he was in grade 8.

What followed was a decade of Canadian wide successes for the band including numerous CGMA, Vibe, and regional awards including the 2000 Covenant award winner for "Favourite Live Band".

This led to the dichotomy of Scott Beckman - a calm, relaxed, "all good" guy by day, and an "energy to the max" rockstar by night. This was also the beginning of a strenuous, decade-long touring schedule that he still laughs at.

"We used to think it was so cool to get paid a few hundred dollars to drive all across the country...I've seen most of Canada and the U.S. because I was in a band... and even though that took an amazing toll on each of us, I don’t think any of us would trade that experience for the world."

As the band members grew older and the band began to dissolve, Scott continued to develop his own songwriting and performance.

"The thought of playing on my own was kind of scary at first. It's so overwhelming when everything depends on you, as opposed to being part of a team where everyone has some great input on things...I really enjoyed having creative ideas from 4 other people all the time...but there's also something that's a little exciting about being so vulnerable in my songwriting and performance. Music has a way of stirring the soul like no other medium can... that’s something I’ll never be able to rid myself of no matter how old I get."

This vulnerability and dichotomy exposes itself completely on his upcoming debut record. Original rock/pop songs of love, loss, regret, and happiness in the musical vein of Ben Folds, Sam Roberts, Billy Joel, and others play like a journal into Scott's true biography.

"Somebody Else" is to be released September 2005.
