Scott Perry

From an ordinary teenaged boy to a star-bound songwriter/musician/vocalists!

At age 12, Scott Perry picked up his dad's guitar and decided he wanted to try and learn how to play, since he loved singing and could play a few tunes on the piano already. He found a book that showed him how to play numerous guitar chords, and he started to teach himself chord by chord. The next thing you know, he was writing love songs and jingles at age 12! Never giving up, the youngster kept on writing and writing and realized that the more he wrote, the better he got. Since then, he has written many, many songs, and has self-recorded over a dozen of them. After a few struggles of life experiences, he was able to learn how to write more efficiently, and use different words to make his songs more unique.

As a Softmore in high school, he began to take singing more seriously and tried out for the Del Norte High School Madrigal Choir. There he learned to sight read music, and expand his vocal range. During his Junior year, the choir flew over seas to Europe for an England tour where they sang with 20 different choir groups from all over the United States and Europe.

At age 21, he entered into the "Southern Oregon Idol" contest, where hundreds of people auditioned to become the winner of the competition to recieve a guaranteed audition at American Idol. After 3 auditions, he made it in to the final 32 contestants. During the contest he performed songs like, "Desperado" by the Eagles, "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing", the Mark Chesnut arrangement, and finally one of his originals, "You're Gone" After four days, the competition was narrowed down to the final eight on the last day. It was down to the audience to determine the final 3 contestants, and after his, "Hat Throwing Performance," Scott was chosen as one of the final 3. After singing one more song for the judges they came down to the final decision, and Scott became the first runner up for the competition (second place.) But that didn't stop the stars' ambitions and dreams.

He had learned a lot from his experience. One of the judges, Charmaine, even announced, "I do believe that one day... you will be a Superstar!" He went on from there to try out for an actual American Idol audition in L.A, but only to find that he was just one of thousands with a talent to sing. "How do you really show someone your true talent in only 15-20 seconds, when there are thousands of people around you doing the same thing?", he asked. But he didn't stop there either.

Next he went on to try out for Nashville Star, a country version of American Idol. He flew out, with his mom as support, to Nashiville TN, all the way from California, and found that this time at least he made it past the first round, only to find that he hadn't made it any further. Think he gave up yet? Not a chance. While he was in Nashville, he walked down Broadway St. with his guitar hoping to find somewhere where he could show off his talent and passion for his music.

He then came across an old saloon called, Tootsies Orchid Lounge, where famous stars from Patsy Cline, to Gretchen Wilson, had performed in the past. There, he was able to line himself up a gig, playing for tips, during "acoustic in the morning," at the old saloon, where the staff and listeners fell in love with his original, "Livin' Like A Redneck." Taking advantage of his time spent in Tennesee, he was also able to record two original songs, in a small recording studio outside of Nashville. There, he recorded his demos of "Livin' Like A Redneck," and "You're Gone."

Finally, at age 22, he tried out for the 2007 Colgate Country Showdown, a national competition that has been going on for over 25 years! Artists such as, Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley, Reba McEntire, Montgomery Gentry, and many more had all been in this competition in the past, but none ever made it to the top! As he went through his first audition in the showdown, he sang a heart warming, Josh Turner favorite, "Would You Go With Me," showing off his comfortably low voice, followed by his original favorite, "You're Gone." He of course made it to the next round of the local competition, the top five, where he sang on the 4th of July. His first song was his original, "Livin' Like A Redneck," wich was his hometowns country favorite, and second a patriotic song called, "I'm Goin' Home," which he wrote for the troops in Iraq. That landed him first place moving on to the state competition in Coos Bay OR, where he and 7 other competitors would compete to make it to the regional competition.

Well needless to say, that was someone else's year to win, not his. Wow, you'd think someone would give up after not making it so far in any of those competitions! Not a chance!
