I was at Blueberry Hill's Duck Room Saturday night to see Candy Coburn, with Scott Porter opening.

I got there right at show time, so I only had a few moments to find a spot and get my camera out. I wasn't, truth be told, very well-versed in Scott Porter's music. However, he played a mix of acoustic-based guitar rock - both his own and a few covers (Matchbox 20 and Goo Goo Dolls). He said he was working in the studio now to record some of his music, and after seeing his performance, I'd be interested to hear what he releases. He seemed very comfortable on stage, and I wouldn't hesitate to see him again the next time he plays in the area.

I did know some of Candy Coburn's music before the show, though she ended up playing mostly songs that have not been released yet. She spoke to me before the show, and claimed that she didn't play guitar very well, but anyone would see her might debate that. She is talented, no doubt - her songs are, on the whole, spirited country songs performed by someone who was obviously born to be on stage. She's able to make the audience feel as though they're both at a party and yet she's confiding in them. She would be just as much fun to see at a massive venue as a tiny one and you can tell that she's having just as much fun as the audience is.

I would be excited to see either artist again - and as both are tied to the area in one way or another, hopefully it won't be too long before they play again! - ToastedRav.com
