Bio

Scott and Marina combine the hauntingly beautiful sounds of the Native American Flute with a simple yet elegant classical Japanese Piano style. This combination of eastern and western styles has never been heard before and truly sets them way apart from other piano and flute combinations.

Scott and Marina are strongly influenced by Kazu and Keiko Matsui.

Scott and Marina met in the spring of 2008 when Marina came to Arizona on her first trip to the United States. Marina was a guest of Scott's parents who are friends of her family. Little did either of them know at the time, the journey to the states would result in an eternal and inseparable bond between her and Scott.

On one fateful evening shortly before returning to Japan, Marina came to Scott's house for the first time.In Scott's house she saw a music room filled with exotic instruments from around the world, yet what caught her eye the most was a keyboard. She went right to it, switched it on and shocked everyone as she began to play. Not once during her stay had she mentioned that she was a concert trained pianist.

Surprised and overjoyed with what he heard, Scott picked up a flute and started to jam with Marina. An amazing musical chemistry was formed in that moment. A wood flute, Didgeridoo and Chinese Guzheng player, Scott had previouly recorded 3 CD's. Marina had never recorded before. Agreeing to create a CD together, their lives were forever changed.

Produced in one day, "Ebb & Flow", was their first creative endeavor. Marina returned to Japan the day following its production and waited for occasional emails from Scott telling her of the CD's success as he would perform to backtracks.

The response to the CD prompted another visit from Marina. This time, thanks to a letter written to the American Embassy by Scott's father, Marina was granted a 9 month visa. She quit her job as the top sales representative in the largest cell phone company in Japan, flew to America and picked up where she and Scott had left off.

Together they began a series of concert events and planned their next CD. A chance call that June from a Yoga instructor Scott met 2 years earlier, placed the planned CD on hold. Commissioned to create music for a yoga instructional DVD, together they created a new CD called, "Sacred Waters".

Once completed, they resumed the creation of their planned CD. Having much more time to focus on the finer details of its process then with their first CD, they spent countless hours creating and practicing new music. The CD changed directions and names several times as it began to evolve. The end result is one of their proudest accomplishments in a CD called, "Under One Sky".

Marina is an inspiration to many around the world that have seen her perform, as she suffers from severe Rheumatoid Arthritis in her hands and fingers. Yet she continues to play with such grace and elegance, fighting through the pain in her constant pursuit for musical perfection.
