SCOTT TOWAIJ Official BIOGRAPHY

"The songs on Scott's new album 'Sons of Light' are excellent in every way! Great voice, great production, great songs!"
- Tommy Walker, Integrity Records Recording Artist & Worship Leader

Scott Towaij presently leads Worship at the largest Church in Ottawa, Canada, The Metropolitan Bible Church (The MET). He is a singer, songwriter, and recording artist. In addition to playing guitar, Blues Harp and a variety of other stringed instruments, he is also a Teacher and dually certified Trauma and Addictions Counselor.

Scott has a very dramatic faith testimony and survived sexual, physical, emotional and mental abuse that started at a very early age. His child hood trauma led him down a path of self hatred that was filled with drugs, alcohol and women. He became a drug dealer who was very plugged into the music scene and club circuit. He almost lost his life many times due to his addiction and survived a severe motor vehicle accident that was a major turning point in his life. Scott’s salvation is nothing short of miraculous and whenever he gets the opportunity he loves to share his faith testimony.

Today, as a new creation in Christ, Scott is married with children and has celebrated over 21 years of sobriety. He is one of those Christians who has a deep appreciation for his salvation and does not take it for granted. His traumatic background has given him a deep understanding of brokenness and a heart for those who are suffering. This combination of past events and the way that God is using him today, combine to create music that is both unique and contemporary at the same time.

“Scott is one of Canada's hottest new rock stars on the Christian music scene"
- Lynn Saxberg, Music Critic for the Ottawa Citizen.

Scott’s current album, “Sons of Light” has been extremely well received in Canada and is now making some headway in the United States. The first single entitled “One Church” has been in rotation on EVERY Christian radio station in Canada as has the follow up single “Shine On” He enjoyed 26 consecutive weeks on CHRI’s weekly TOP 20 and has now launched his third single “My King” which features Jacob Moon. Scott met the folks from WDCX in Buffalo at the Kingdom Bound Music Festival in the summer of 2010 and they immediately ADDED “One Church” which prompted an American release of the first single through PLAY MPE. The end result was that more than 100 U.S. Stations download the single. The second American single “Shine On” was released January 10, 2011 and is already getting picked up. Scott has been confirmed to play the Worship stage at the 25TH anniversary of Kingdom Bound on August 1, 2011 and will be launching a full summer tour that will focus on Ontario and the East Coast of Canada in addition to some specific American dates

"Scott Towaij is one of the hardest working new artists I know...the message in his new record is spot on and it is resonating, in a big way, with Scott's growing fan base in Ottawa...Scott was named CHRI’s break out artist of 2010 and had his first two singles “One Church” and “Shine On” in the Top 20 for half the year!
- Brock Tozer, Music Director CHRI 99.1 FM Ottawa

Scott is no stranger to the music scene; he has been in a variety of different bands since the 80’s. His writing style merges rock, funk, blues, R&B, Folk and even a bit of jazz yet manages to maintain a contemporary overall sound. His debut Christian album entitled "Your Love Has Set Me Free" was nominated in the 30TH annual Covenant Awards for JAZZ / BLUES ALBUM of the YEAR. Prior to this his 1996 debut secular release entitled "Pushing Through the Pavement" had a top 10 rock hit across Canada. The song “Don't blame me I only live here made it on rock charts exactly one position higher than “Flood” by Jars of Clay and received major airplay and specials on the major rock stations across Canada. The disc was additionally syndicated to all 30 CBC afternoon shows where it was featured and praised for the quality of the songwriting.

One of the things Scott loves to do is to share his faith testimony with others. Although his story is painful describing a past filled with trouble, he will be very quick to point out that God is using him in a powerful way today. Scott believes very strongly that God allowed him to live through many horrible things so he could reach many who would otherwise be unreachable. Scott identifies greatly with both Paul's struggles that he describes in The Bible and Johnny Cash's struggles in his life. Scott believes that like Paul, he needs to share his faith testimony with others to strengthen, encourage and challenge them to shine their light for Jesus and his music is giving him the ability to do just that!

"Scott's music strikes to the heart of what the gospel is all about. He's a street-level guy whose feet are planted firmly on the rock and it comes across in every song. Musically, there's no question Scott's
