Scott Walter

Scott Walter

BandRockSinger/Songwriter

Whether solo or with his Band, Scott Walter's music will grab you. His strong clear vocals, take his songs from straightforward rock, to simple pop, to honest melancholy twang in a major key.

Biography

Originally from West Virginia, Scott made his way west to Seattle in 1995 and performs throughout the region. He started his musical career with a beater guitar at age 14 and just kept playing. Focusing his energy on classical guitar for several years in college and afterwards, it was in 2000 that he ventured into songwriting, writing material to play with friends (now the Scott Walter Band). Influenced by artists such as Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, and The Barenaked Ladies, he pays attention to both melody and lyrics creating memorable songs with real meaning in the words. "I’ll write about whatever comes to mind. Silly, profound, fun, melancholy. If it speaks to me, I’ll try and make it a song. And hopefully it will speak to the listener."

Solo or with the Scott Walter Band, Scott’s strong clear vocals take his tunes from straightforward rock, to simple pop, to honest melancholy twang in a major key for a dynamic live performance.

----------------------------------------------------------

The Scott Walter Band formed in 2001 (originally as Flat Margaret) playing in a Ballard basement. Now the 5 man outfit is a tight acoustic rock band playing clubs throughout Seattle. With a set that includes 3 chord pop, acoustic guitar/mandolin ballads, honky tonk, and groove rock, they play to entertain.

Scott's lyrics and melodies are strongly influenced by Billy Bragg and the Barenaked Ladies. And the influences of the band members (including the Grateful Dead, Cake, Rush, Jack Johnson, U2, and the Blues) are apparent in their arrangements of Scott's songs. Behind his vocals and percussive acoustic guitar are Randy Reichenbach's masterful grooves on guitar and mandolin, and harmonica riffs. Andrew Rose adds rocking electric guitar solos and colorful conga beats. At the core is the dynamic and nuanced playing of Bob Congleton on bass guitar and Mark Walters on drums and backing vocals. The long friendship among the members is obvious in their creative and rocking shows.

This is Goodbye

Written By: Scott Walter

This is Goodbye

She came to me
In deepest sleep
Saying things I couldn’t understand
But somehow I knew
What she wanted
And gently took her by the hand

We walked for a while
Something in her smile told me that

This is goodbye
This is goodbye
This is goodbye
This is goodbye

She looked at me
‘cross a crowded street
The only one I could love just then
In the moment I could see
Her waking
Seconds past sun rose, sun set

Only two in the sky
Reflection in her eyes told me that

This is goodbye
This is goodbye
This is goodbye
This is goodbye

Things that hold me back
Don’t know how to stop them
Know they’re not for real
Heard it said too often

This is goodbye

She sat above
And turned a page
I put my heart in her possession
In an instant we were there
In a living room
Right now a vague recollection

I woke up from dreaming
Just as she was leaving

This is goodbye
This is goodbye
This is goodbye
This is goodbye

Things that hold me back
Don’t know how to stop them
Know they’re not for real
Heard it said too often

This is goodbye.

Somewhere Warm

Written By: Scott Walter

Take a trip to San Diego
If I’m gonna be a no one
Might as well be somewhere warm
We’ll just see how this next day goes
And all along the road
I can hear my mother voice as she warns

Son there isn’t that much time
You can do anything you want to
But if you don’t make up your mind
The shadows turning with the sun may come to haunt you

Driving down to San Diego
If I’m gonna work for nothing
Might as well work somewhere warm
We’ll just see how this next day goes
And in the San Francisco mist
I see my lovers eyes as she mourns

I always knew this day would come
I was a fool to try and love you
I cry for you my lonely one
I hope that someday comfort comes along and finds you

Moving down to San Diego
If I’m going nowhere
Might as well go somewhere warm
We’ll just see how this next day goes
And in the Santa Anna winds
Friendships’ sails tattered and torn

To my back so many years
So many faces I have known
Have put aside my fears
as I stare on down the road
Ahead of me I’ve got so many miles to go

Now I live in San Diego
If I’m gonna be a no one
At least I’m somewhere warm
We’ll just see how these next days go
But as the ocean hugs the sun
Something tells me I’m home……

I Just Don't Know Who

Written By: Scott Walter

Why are there so many fools in this world
and why are so many in love
Why are there so many fools in this world
and tell me how can I become one

Cause if I didn't know the things I do
I might be able to find a you
to finish the words ‘I love’

So many places and so many things
no wonder it’s so hard to find
All of us people squeezed in between
and honestly, who's got the time

I’ll pencil it in, to figure it out
go into the crowd and shout
I want somebody to love

And I do
I just don't know who

Talk to my family and talk to my friends
they tell me ‘Just give it some time’
makes me feel better but at the day’s end
you can't kiss a pillow good night.

Looking for something that can’t be found
I'm tired of lugging this shoe around
to fit somebody to love

and I do,
I do

I’ve got this funny feeling that
Just maybe
Love was never meant for me
and Life’s a kind of comedy,
a parody,
God playing a joke on me
That would be a tragedy
Cause if I’m not supposed to meet the one for me
Then that would mean
she will never meet
The me for someone

That’s it I quit, I throw in the towel
Who really needs love anyway
Move to a hut just outside of town
Keep my heart in a jar just in case

I can’t wait around anymore
For love to come bounding up to my door
And say congratulations you’ve won
Here’s your prize now, here she comes
Your very own someone to love

And I do
I do
I do

I just don’t know who

Cross Country

Written By: Scott Walter

On the other side of the country
I sleep while she wakes
Left to dream for both of us
Of a life that can't wait

This screaming love made a whisper
on a tin can telephone
satellite feed leaves me empty
and lost in my own home

I send my heart out cross country
searching for your light
I know you're always with me
but I'm alone tonight.

Not so lost I can't remember
the time before we were
trade those long nights for this longing
the loneliness for this hurt

I send my heart out cross country
searching for your light
I know you're always with me
but I'm alone……
I’m alone
I’m alone…..
Tonight

We look up and see the same stars
Behind bright city lights
So many souls all around me
But I’m alone…

I send my heart out cross country
searching for your light
I know you're always with me
but I'm alone……
I’m alone
I’m alone…..
Tonight

Mandy

Written By: Scott Walter

Oh Mandy, sing me a song and make me believe
that every note, and every breath was made only for me.

Oh Mandy, I haven't got long
so Mandy sing me a song

Oh mandy, sing me a song with that voice so sweet and so small
bring the proud man to his knees and make the righteous crawl

Oh sing me the breeze in the wind,
Oh Mandy sing it again.

Sing me the song, the song of my life
of all of the joy and all of the strife,
Sing me the one thatbrings back the tears
the laughs and the smiles and the ache of the years
Make this old heart dance just once more
for soon I'll be the dirt and the dust on the floor

Oh Mandy, sing me a song and float me on down the stream
let me go to the place on the other side of my dreams

Oh Mandy help me be strong,

Oh Mandy, I haven't got long
So Mandy, sing me a song

Time

Written By: Scott Walter

There’s a pub on 35th
With quiet booths in the back
It’d be nice if we could sit
And talk about the time of day and things like that

And I know it’s been a while.
Maybe it’s too soon
It’d be nice if we could smile
At the same time at the same thing
In the same room ---

Time, has a funny way
And it takes everybody to a different place
Between now and then
Between there and friends
Good to see you again
After so much time

Ice water on the wood
Leaves a stain
Will anything as good
Come around again
Do you know what you want
And does it come with words
Mirror on the wall
Shows us here sitting so close but so far from where we were

Time, has a funny way
And it takes everybody to a different place
Between now and then
Between there and friends
Good to see you again
After so much time

There’s a pub on 35th
With quiet booths in the back
It’d be nice if we could sit
And talk about , talk about talk about the time….

… has a funny way
And it takes everybody to a different place
Between now and then
Between there and friends
Good to see you again
After so much time…

… has a funny way
And it takes everybody to a different place
Between now and then
Between there and friends
Good to see you again
After so much time…
