Biography

Known as “Alaska’s Rising Star,” Scout is a standout female performer in the Alaskan music scene. Scout was born and raised in Anchorage, where she began exploring her love of music and fascination with words early; singing, writing, and recording her early songs before she left elementary school. Her guitar-furnished songwriting blends creative lyrics with passionate melodies. She is also a stunningly beautiful young woman who has developed a mature and exceptional stage presence, well beyond her eighteen years. With her powerful voice, rich vibrato, and driving guitar, she is a popular artist, playing in over thirty venues throughout South-Central Alaska and Washington.

Following the release of three early CDs: “The Mockingbird Sings,” “Wherever You Might Be,” and “Foolish Me,” made as a very young singer/songwriter, Scout released “Show Me” in 2009, a blend of her own country, pop, and rock-influenced music. This more professionally produced CD features the talents of several notable regional musicians, and has sold well at gigs, on iTunes, Pandora, and has received routine local airplay. Her 2010 EP, “Warm”, has also been a brisk seller and incorporates more pop elements than previous releases. In a recent interview, Make A Scene Alaska said, “At the surprising age of 17, this young lady is well into carving her niche in the local music scene” (July 2010). Scout loves the recording studio, but “Playing my music live is a deeper to me than simply having it recorded. In person, I strive to connect my music through myself to every person in the audience; that’s what I give to it, everything I have to give.”

Talented young guitarist, David Myhre, has joined with Scout for some great live performances and they are now booking together.

Woe Is Me

Verse 1:
I never liked blue eyes to begin with.
Something about them seems all wrong,
I should have noticed how they stare at me,
But before I know it they’ll be gone,
Long gone.
I never liked you to begin with.
Something about you seemed all wrong,
I should have noticed how you stared at me,
But before I knew it we were long gone,
Long gone.

Chorus:
And I have seen this in a thousand movies,
I know what it's liked to be in love,
And I have felt the sting of being sorry,
But when you're all I see,
Woe is me.

Verse 2:
I knew I should have seen this coming,
The situation seemed off track.
You once left me lost and helpless,
But I can't, I can't help myself,
'Cause now you're back.

Chorus

Bridge:
It'll be a sad day when you're gone for good.
And all of the blue eyes of the world,
Will turn to remind me;
Never fall in love with a boy who leaves you foolish,
But until I face that day, I'll kiss you anyway.

Chorus

Orange Dice

Orange Dice

Verse 1:
I went driving through the rain,
And I saw your face again,
I recognized the orange dice,
In the window of your car.
Though I didn't catch your eye,
You just quickly passed on by,
I couldn't help but to notice that,
You were driving alone.

Chorus:
Do you still think of me,
And how you called me pretty names,
I have missed every call,
Every kiss,
When a moment comes like this,
I hurt even more,
So I need to know,
Do you still think of me.

Verse 2:
You came to my door,
Like a hundred times before,
But I could still hear your engine running,
In my drive.
I had short and seldom words to say.
What was I supposed to do,
When you just, gave my heart away,
Not even pride could stop me from shaking,
Behind my door.

Chorus:

Bridge:
I saw that sticker in your rear window,
And I still don't know what the hell it says.
But one thing is for sure,
I never want to see that damn thing again.

Chorus:

Warm

Written By: Scout

V1:
Never thought I had so much soul,
Didn’t know I’d lose this much control,
I’ve got pals,
But you got friends on the other side.
Lately we haven’t got much sleep,
Lately there’s been rhythm in my feet,
I got time,
But you got time to bide.
Chorus:
Little bit better than heaven,
‘Cause this place can fight my hell I’m,
Look’n for all sorts of answers,
And you’ve got stories to tell.
Little bit better than heaven,
‘Cause this place can dry my storm I’m,
Fight’n fate to ask some questions,
And you’ve never felt so warm.

V2:
Nevert thought I could be happy if I died tonight,
But today I’d be glad just to see some light,
It’s been so dark and cold I,
Don’t know where to go.
Didn’t quite fit in where I used to live,
Didn’t quite realize I had so much to give,
I had potential,
But you had the strength to tell me so.

Chorus

Bridge:
Who will love me,
Who won’t let me down,
When will be my time to be loved,
And is it now.
Are you here to today,
Are you mine to stay,
Should I put all my faith in feeling,
Or should I just walk away.

Chorus
“Fight’n fate to ask these questions”

Lead Her On

Lead Her On
By:Scout Smith

Won’t you tell me it’s over now
Won’t you tell me it’s over now
‘Cause she don’t light you up like I do.

Can’t you tell me you cut her lose
Can’t you tell me you cut her lose
‘Cause she, she ain’t good enough for you

Chorus:
You can lead her on home at night
You can lead her on in with your eyes
You can let her believe she’s yours tonight
But you’ll still think of me in the back of your mind
Lead her on babe
Lead her on babe

Can’t you tell me you cut her lose
Can’t you tell me you cut her lose
‘Cause she, she ain’t good enough for you

You’ve been say’n she’s wearing you out
You’ve been say’n she’s wearing you out
‘Cause she, she don’t make you stare like I do

Chorus

Don’t be afraid to let her down
Don’t be afraid to let her down
‘Cause I, I don’t have time to wait around for you

Chorus

What she don’t know,
She don’t know
She don’t know
She don’t know
Oh it’s gonna hurt her (repeat twice)
