""Phenomenal New Album LeBaron""

Scrapes is an indie rock band hailing from Halifax that has just released a phenomenal new album LeBaron.
Right from opening track, “Time For You”, with its Plaskett-esque guitar riffs, big Pixies drum sound and dynamic vocals that sound like Springsteen and Win Butler trading lines on a duet, Scrapes sets the bar high. The record has all the right ingredients to qualify as a feel-good summer album that I usually become obsessed with every July and August. Although Yo La Tengo’s Fade got there first, LeBaron is a close second.
Scrapes is not based out of Newfoundland, but the record does feature local boy Matthew English on keyboards and synths. The band has no St. John’s shows lined-up up as of yet but you can check out their new record at the link below. Meanwhile, check out Matthew’s new duo called Lemonade with Sara Blackmore (Quilt) this Wednesday (Aug 14th) at Distortion.

Bio

scrapes are a five-piece rock band stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Channelling a true appreciation of the thrills and spills of living on the east coast, scrapes specialize in driving pop songs that speak with a loud and honest voice. The result of lifelong friendships and a mutual appreciation of cars that aren’t quite vintage, scrapes combine sturdy rhythms, hot guitars and bossy vocals in a sound that honours rock’s most modest heroes, dad’s old records, and the more surprising aspects of the 1990’s. scrapes started with the released ‘Lebaron EP’ in 2013, an album we preceded the live act. In their short time as a band scrapes have competed in the finals of Toronto’s Indie Week Challenge, held a month-long residency at the legendary Carleton Music Bar and Grill, shared the stage with some of Canada’s top rock acts and played scores of shows around the Maritimes. scrapes are currently set to enter the studio to record a shiny new EP.
