"Screaming Red"

Passion is something every band needs; Screaming Red – a punk rock band from Dallas, Texas – has all that and more. Not only do they show a passion for their music and performance, but they also show a great passion for each other’s company. The members of Screaming Red – Andrea, Cera, Daisi, and “Philfy” – genuinely love each other’s company. Screaming Red’s passion has gained them a large and loyal fan base, and they will be releasing their first CD in a month titled “Kick in the Face.”
That same passion is also evident through the music. The sound is really hard, but Andrea – lead vocals – wields the task of delivering the lyrics with an electric intensity that is original and fun; these girls – and guy – are here to rock.
Andrea also writes the lyrics for most of the songs, and she sings as if she is feeling the words all over again; that is, she plays with an energy that makes her love for music more than apparent.
Cera is the bass player and backup vocals, and she too has the characteristic stage presence Screaming Red is so great at delivering. When she performs onstage she is completely immersed in the show.
The sound of Screaming Red would not be complete without the fast-paced guitar sound that Daisi – the band’s lead guitarist – provides, and the drumming of “Philfy” – the only male in the band and an excellent drummer.
Every member of the band has a love for what they are doing, and it is impossible to miss in their stage presence. The fun and wild tone of Screaming Red gives them a whole new dimension; their shows are full of skits and conversation and a general rambunctiousness.
“[Performing is] an excuse to wear a leotard,” Andrea joked. “Or whatever you want to wear.” They recently played a Vagina Monologues Benefit Show at the Boiler Room of Denton, Texas, and Andrea did wear a leotard; about halfway through the show she pulled off the striped dress she was wearing to reveal the bright red leotard underneath.
Costume changes onstage and their mascot Chili the Lamb – a blow-up lamb they bring to most of their shows – are just two of the things one can expect to see at a Screaming Red show. Another thing one can expect to see is an energetic crowd, something both Daisi and Andrea said they love about shows.
Screaming Red doesn’t only play for themselves, either. “I think we play more for other people than we do for ourselves,” Andrea said. Not only did they play for the Vagina Monlogues benefit concert, but they also have played numerous other benefit shows for other causes. They love playing to benefit others. If they can help others and change the world a little, they will. “[Having that opportunity] is one of the best positions to be in,” Andrea said. They don’t mind the fact that more and more of their shows are benefits.
“We just want to rock it,” Daisi added.
The band funneled their energy to help out the Vagina Monologues production that FMLA of the University of North Texas put on. The Vagina Monologues is a play performed in theatres most often around Valentine’s Day. The proceeds go to help women who are victims of abuse.
“The proceeds benefit women in bad situation,” Andrea said. “And we’re all women except Phil, and he loves females.” For the benefit show they helped raise $1000 dollars for the cause.
One of the most unique things about Screaming Red is that they are a female punk band; there aren’t many female bands in the punk rock scene. They don’t mind, though. “We like the challenge. It keeps us on our toes,” Andrea and Daisi agreed.
Another unique aspect of Screaming Red is their blatant raunchiness. Their shows are filled with raunchy jokes and strong language. They aren’t afraid to do or say whatever they want. “If people don’t like it they don’t have to listen,” Andrea said.
Defying stereotypes is something Screaming Red is really good at, and they use their originality to encourage others to do the same. “It doesn’t matter where you’re from, you are who you are,” Andrea said.

"Rockers vs Mods recap 2008"

The sugar-high that Lovie provided was immediately ramped up to a full-on skin pop of heroin(e) fueled grrrl punk from The Screaming Reds. The front grrrl Andrea is a pocket-rocket and she lived up to the bands name, the girl has some lungs. The whole band was super-tight and my pants got a bit snugger during the show, too. A few years ago I wanted to marry the Lunachicks, but now I’m conflicted.

Bio

Daisi (geetarrr), Cera (bass/backing vox), Andrea (lead Vox), and Phil (Drummmssss) were all wandering around a vacant parking lot in downtown Dallas one nite in 2006. They were ALL up to no good, they were ALL drunk, and wanted to ROCK!!!!! In this drunkin stupor these four hooligans broke into a rehearsal studio at approximately 4 am on a Saturday morning. They wrote a few songs and played a kickass show that night. The four have been rocking out ever since and the rest is history in the making... check out our live shit at www.myspace.com/screamingred or www.screamingredrocks.com
