The Screaming Tulips started out as a two man accoustic act. Lyle Pavuk and Zac Dluzen picked up a nice little following playing the occaisional coffee house and sports bars. Soon enough, Brad McMichael joined in and put some bottom into their songs. The search for a drummer was on. A school chum, Zac Fisher, who had his own band, and impressed by the Speakeasies (as they were known then), tossed a note into their tip basket that simply said "I'll be your drummer until you can find someone permanently". The Screaming Tulips were born. The band went on a whirlwind frenzy writing a dozen songs on short order and learned dozens of covers. At an important gig, the band, asked to play longer than ever before, threw in Jet song, "Are You Gonna be My Girl?" that was barely practiced. The just decided to have fun with it. . . nailed the song, but more importantly, their newfound stage presence brought the audience to their feet. The Tulips were now not just great songwriters and musicians, but awesome performers as well.
